Don’t have any pictures yet, but I installed the new coil and distributor this past weekend. The bug is running great now! I think it was probably the condenser, but I’d rather upgrade the whole thing while I’m at it. Seems to have really good power but bogs a bit if you gas it at low rpms. I also had pulled the carb apart and cleaned it so might need to go back and make more adjustments.
in reply to: Glenn's Weekend Blue 1963 Ragtop #63957Thanks guys! Any recommendations on the rear? Are 215s too big for a 1600?
in reply to: Glenn's Weekend Blue 1963 Ragtop #63952Just signed back in for the first time in a while. Haha yeah the bug has been playing split duty on daily driver for me. I will trade off leaving one at work. Will gave me a ride down the other morning and I realized I didn’t have the key π¬. Franz helped me hot wire it over the phone and off it went.
It’s been running poor. Same issue that I talked about last time I posted. Been trying to track it down, but it’s very intermittent. Every time I think it’s fixed it’ll come back on the next drive. Going to install a pentronix ignitor II and low ohm coil this weekend.
ALSO ordering new tires for it. Any recommended setups? It currently has 2″ narrowed beam 145R15 front and 205/70R15 rear cranked down a notch or two. I was thinking of running 185s up front, but would that require a narrower beam?

River showed up and brought the monsoon rains with her! Luckily they quickly passed and we took full advantage of the high waters

in reply to: Glenn's Weekend Blue 1963 Ragtop #57271So recently, the bug has been misfiring in a weird way and has been ‘hiccupping’ violently. It will run fine then randomly start to hiccup and backfire before returning to normal. This happens at any speed or throttle input. I tried doing the valves, checking the points, and Will helped me with timing but it still has this issue. Any suggestions on what to do? My best guess would be the points as there was a small bit of buildup on there that I couldn’t sand off but not sure
