Well here’s the recap on Glenn’s Weekend (Gulf) Blue ragtop that was my first paint job at the beginning of last summer! This was my first car in high school and is now Glenn’s project here in San Diego.
Its been in the driveway waiting for Glenn to get back from his study abroad trip in New Zealand, and he’s finally back at it. He’s working on finishing wet sanding it today.
Once its finished I think we need to do a little brake job, tune the motor up, reassemble everything, and he should be cruising again!John JonesKeymasterDecember 21, 2017 at 7:27 pmPost count: 6439
Get to work you slackers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😉 😉 😉 😉 😉 😉 😉John JonesKeymasterDecember 22, 2017 at 8:27 amPost count: 6439
Are you guys going to start buffing today??? Sand it to at least 1500 grit… and start polishing… You guys better get some 1″ tape and tape up edges, and shit, chrome bits… My preference for compound is 3m perfect it… just do the number 1… and buff each area 2-3 times…. even if it looks done.. or it will die back some.. You should probably stick to foam pads… the wool is more aggressive and easier to burn through with..
Good luck!!! 😉 😉John JonesKeymasterDecember 22, 2017 at 8:28 amPost count: 6439
You better go buy the shit today to do it…. Paint stores will be closed till tuesday I am sure!!FranzKeymasterDecember 22, 2017 at 10:16 amPost count: 3460
Glen has been living a year of winter?John JonesKeymasterDecember 22, 2017 at 3:00 pmPost count: 6439
doesn’t look much like winter to me. 😀 😀WillyModeratorDecember 22, 2017 at 3:41 pmPost count: 1063
I think he’s up to 2000 now, finishing up his last few areas… not sure where he looked up how to do this ???
Progress is slow though. He was working with me for a little bit in the garage and now is on the couch on his phone ?
I guess the year of Winter has taken it out of him?John JonesKeymasterDecember 26, 2017 at 8:26 amPost count: 6439

Not shiney yet… He finally went and borrowed a friend’s DA yesterday and just finished making his first pass on the driver’s side and is starting on the rear. I’m surprised he hasn’t posted up with his own details yet… ?John JonesKeymasterDecember 28, 2017 at 3:33 pmPost count: 6439

Finished the first compounding with 3m super duty last night. Going to do one more today once the new pads show up then hit it with 3m finesse-it.John JonesKeymasterDecember 30, 2017 at 6:26 amPost count: 6439
That super duty is like using toothpaste to buff… 😀RustabusParticipantDecember 31, 2017 at 8:44 amPost count: 1900
Looks like it has plenty of shine already!!! Why are you still buffing????? 😛 😛 😛 😀GlennmossModeratorJanuary 4, 2018 at 12:26 amPost count: 206
Just trying to remove as many scratches as possible Rusty
On that battle, I went a little OCD and took the hood and front fender back down to 2000 grit to try to remove some deeper scratches after already having been finished with the rest of the bug 🙄
The turn signal had been glued into place by a previous owner because the holes were too big. When I took it off Rusty and Will helped fill them in
Nothing like drilling into a fresh paint job 😯
