Or you could just go water cooled 😉😜 Bummed that I couldn’t join you guys at Octo. We had fun camping in Big Sur though!Â

in reply to: Glenn's Weekend Blue 1963 Ragtop #66094Couple updates and questions for you guys. The Pentronix low ohm coil (0.6ohm) died after a week 😒 Replaced it back to the bosch. After it left me on the side of the road, I haven’t been commuting with this as often. But now the Vanagon has been having its share of mechanical needs and I need this back in action. It needs a new battery and I was wondering which one you would recommend. Looking at the Optima batteries, which one would work with the stock ground strap?
in reply to: KCW randomness #65414anyone ever seen one of these before? 👀 would definitely help cut out the wind under the bus

in reply to: Glenn's Weekend Blue 1963 Ragtop #64584I tried ordering 145/65s from TireRack and they said that they will not sell them to me due to it not meeting weight requirements!? Anyone ever have that issue before?

Looks like a Manx II… cool color too
in reply to: Dans ‘65 Tesla #64425Because the direction of the current changes in AC electricity, you cannot directly store the power. Placing a capacitor in an AC circuit has no effect on the alternating flow of the electricity. Luckily the process of converting AC-DC and vice versa is very efficient ~98%
in reply to: Dans ‘65 Tesla #64395Yeah… high voltage batteries are no joke. It is possible, but I would avoid the custom pack. It’d be super cool, but mess up once and you get a 450V arc flash in your face with no easy way to put it out.
Batteries are definitely the limiting factor for these conversions at the moment. That’s why you will see lots of places selling ‘crate motors’, but not including a battery solution.
The LG Chem batteries that I have are pretty awesome in that they push a lot of voltage so you can run a Tesla motor without using a whole lot of room.

in reply to: Audrey’s Adventures with Home Ownership #64370Congrats Audrey!!! This is so awesome and I’m excited/jealous that you own a house! You guys have done a tremendous job with it. I think with all these new skills you’re gonna have to start flipping houses now… 😉
in reply to: Glenn's Weekend Blue 1963 Ragtop #64369Don’t have any pictures yet, but I installed the new coil and distributor this past weekend. The bug is running great now! I think it was probably the condenser, but I’d rather upgrade the whole thing while I’m at it. Seems to have really good power but bogs a bit if you gas it at low rpms. I also had pulled the carb apart and cleaned it so might need to go back and make more adjustments.
in reply to: Glenn's Weekend Blue 1963 Ragtop #63957Thanks guys! Any recommendations on the rear? Are 215s too big for a 1600?
