Those planes are amazing!
I think the RC Crandon is a great idea. Doing this kind of work day in and out is physically and mentally taxing. Knowing your current back condition, I’m always amazed at how you brutalize yourself with both the racing and transport to and from the events. I prefer to avoid wheelchairs.
These days, it’s next to impossible to to make it with retail, but I could see a little ‘pro shop’ equipped with consumables for the cars. Set up a little trailer and sell snacks. Get a liquor license and sell beer. Sell memberships, host big events.
I could totally see this coming together. Seems like all you would need is a Bobcat and a lot of social media presence.

in reply to: RC Randomness #81884I have a Radian and a Radian UMX. I’d suggest one of the UMX’s if you’re starting out. It’s tiny, but pretty durable for it’s size. So small that you can fly it anywhere. I’ve tossed it up in parking lots in urban areas. I even sloped it a couple of times in light lift.
I never had powered planes, only sailplanes. When I got back into it I tried the power-gliders and I love the advantages of them. You get WAY more flight time than traditional bungee launch setups.
I love old school, built up planes, especially the vintage stuff, but I just don’t have time to build. I’m glad that the foamies are available and so advanced. It think it helps people get into it or get back into it.

Good luck!
in reply to: Fucking Bubba!!!! #81418Great looking Bus. The green ghost.
in reply to: JJ's projects #81208I would call the guy who left the tag on the input shaft and ask them what oil you should use.
in reply to: JJ's projects #80926I ran a T1 trans with Beetle trailing arms in my Panel and really liked it. I had to lower it a bit due to CV over-extension with T1 CV’s.
The next one is going to be T1 trans with narrowed Bay arms and Bus output flanges/CV’s. It will likely have to be lowered just a bit to cut down in boot wear, but, we’ll see.
I’d consider contacting Brian E about his kits. Apparently he’s working on a stock height conversion. I’d think he has more experience with IRS conversions than most.
Those redux box trans’ were built for getting a fully loaded breadbox up a steep hill with minimal HP. I don’t think that they were set up for the rigors of a stroker motor and long distances, plus they’re loud and drive like shit.in reply to: JJ's projects #80868What a pan I the ass day.. most everything I took apart is junk…. My lower axle bearings would NOT come off.. I had to weld the puller to one side.. the chain got the other side.. fuck! Like it was fused!! Fulcrums looks like shit, axles look like shit. One redux bolt broke off!!! Fuck fuck👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻
IRS doesn’t have any of those parts, and rides better.
Just sayin’…
in reply to: Scott Moss’ 23 Window!!! #80751In my experience, one wrong cut can ruin your whole day.
If you ever cut a Bus for panels, cut OUTSIDE of the area you intend to weld.
Welding in the middle of a fold or in a low, non-bulbous area would be my last choice, but if life gives you lemons….
in reply to: Fucking Bubba!!!! #80448I like the IRS too. I don’t want to have another RGB Bus, but I’d like close to stock height. Last time I ran T1 joints, but I think running T2 joints might allow me to go just a bit higher. I’m thinking narrowed, Bay trailing arms and a T1 trans with T2 output flanges.
in reply to: Fucking Bubba!!!! #80296Are you running Bay CV’s pretty close to stock height? How long do your boots last? That seems to be the downside of IRS conversions.

in reply to: My endless projects… #79919I love doing preservation work. It doesn’t have to perfect down to the last detail and it’s very gratifying to save something for a grateful customer.
Pretty disappointing about the gun, especially after all the prep work. Bodywork will either teach you patience or teach you that you don’t want to do it again.
The guy with the deluxe bumper gave me a rear for my Panel project.
in reply to: My endless projects… #79877Some bumper straightening for a local deluxe. Such nice patina on this bumper and the deluxe it goes on has the same.
