The VW paradise Tripple cab

Postby john jones » Mon Aug 11, 2008 6:25 am

Well.. I have been looking at this bus, doing very little for damn near what seems like a year now.. and yesterday I decided, it was "time" to get on this one.. I kept saying, after this one or that one, or this show or what ever I would start on it, well yesterday was the day.. I don't have a personal project right now.. so I am going to make this one mine..

I don't know the story behind this truck except Scott, the dad, drove it in the 70's and 80's?? So it is a sentimental build... It is truley an extended bus.. Longer by one cargo door. I has all the 80's home improvements on it.. all the bad one's.. Smile Baywindow torsion, kinda but not really welded in, house electrical breakers and panel for fuses.. wood panel interior covered with shag carpet, I could go on and on.. But no use..

I am going to try and make something usable out of it.. make it a shop truck for the guys..

First order of buisness is to put a real split frame under it.. Which we cut out of a parts bus around here.. Then get it on a dolly and inside... This truck needs LOADS of lovin...

a few pics.. I got the old rear frame piece cut out in the rear and working on cutting it out up to the old cut and redo it all the way back..

Notice the peice of cargo floor used for an inner rocker!! Gonna have to fix that for sure! Over by the jackpoint you can see the square hole where the rod at the bottom of the door latches..

This sums it up for busses in the 70's and 80;s!

I'm gonna try and widdle away at this a little each week..

Triples look weird. Like a cafeteria tray collided with a shortened bus.

cut the back off and put a SC bed on it with dual treasures. then it would actually be a useful family wagon. thats what I want.

John, did they place a bed and front panel over the sides of the van?
Or did they cut it down each side and peice the back half together.

I noticed it doesn't have any air vents in the side.

I can just about hear Kris and Jason talking about shoving a turbo motor in there as well as the kids seats!

I hope not..... No monster HP please. [-X [-X

The more I dig into this.. the more simple I would like to keep it, and the more simple i hope they keep it.. maybe a tow vehicle for the rail or around town parts chaser kinda gig.. I have been thinking some old school logo's.. maybe make it look like a VW paradise truck from when Scott was a kid.. We have plenty of time to think about it.. I bet Kris will have some input for me..

This one's gonna be cool. Back to doing another set of gates, John? Hopefully, Gerson will have the fresh gates for you by the time you get around to them.

I hope this one sits low.

Here is my long bed double cab.....some day it will get some lovin. '62 or '63 front and '57 or '58 Single cab rear with dual treasure chest doors.

I had been dreaming of this concept for years when it finally came up for sale and I was all over it.

Hey John, Just a thought, but you could put a little wrecker A-frame on the bed. Then you could stay away from the dreaded "G" word. Smile
We have a VW junkyard down here in Tucson that has a wrecker on a SC and they use it all the time.
Let me draw you a fucking picture!
