in reply to: Sand rail show down #45265
Kelley!! What’s up man? Good to see you posting and your project at KCW. I say everyone is invited, have a huge ass party. Get Tom Unk to come supply the crown apple, man I won’t forget that baja night.. lets do it, sandrail showdown!
pick a date. I’d come out. Let me recall that other night…..
- We ran over Darios window
- wrecked 2 of darios tires
- franz almost killed himself and totaled his baja
- i passed out
- some other things may have happened after I passed out…..not sure
- johns car worked flawlessly, of course
in reply to: 1957 Euro Palm Green/Sand Green, Logos, Semaphores #44772One window down. One to go. Yeh, Franz. I replaced the correct rivets. Used a ball pean hammer and nail set to round over.
in reply to: 1957 Euro Palm Green/Sand Green, Logos, Semaphores #44750I’m glad I didn’t know how monotonous this window rubber was before I started ……..or else I would have never done it. But now I’m in too deep. This is rubber for one bus door Jesus I have no idea how Kcw can install all this without killing a new paint job
in reply to: 1957 Euro Palm Green/Sand Green, Logos, Semaphores #44538Wife’s went to friends house to watch The Bachelor. God that show is terrible. I have an idea, let’s redo my windows on the kitchen counter.
in reply to: 1957 Euro Palm Green/Sand Green, Logos, Semaphores #44356Just a little update. Restored the semaphores, stripped dash back to original paint.
And oh ya. I’m gonna ship that torsion bar and a few bucks to you. When in Colorado, I installed the right spring plate upside down (notch was downward). so the grooves barely were hooked onto the torsion bar since they were on outer half. So, the spring plate slipped off of the grooves created that issue I took it apart, flipped spring plate and it was fixed quickly.
Next:
Ordered new windows rubber and felt and gonna fix drivers door that has a janky busted hinge Gotta wait for another 50 degree day tho

in reply to: Juan’s 59 Lowlight #44034This car is so beautiful…..its awesome. I have never driven in a ghia……maybe some day.
in reply to: Brent’s 66 SO42 Body resto! #41199looks awesome. This is always such an immediate transformation on a build. Congrats.
in reply to: Toms rhd Oval Vert #41077Thanks Franz. I appreciate it. This car has parts sourced from Belgium, Switzerland, Australia and Germany. Pretty cool.
in reply to: 1957 Euro Palm Green/Sand Green, Logos, Semaphores #40701I could probably do that for ya… Do you happen to remember what color yours were? Orange or black? probably orange I am guessing.. the diff is 1 ton option.. I think trucks and commercials got them… passenger busses got the orange one’s… does that sound right? There’s that spare wheel for the vert also… You want the torsion bar soon? We could send just that now, and the wheel when Franz sends you that mirror… sound good??
I don’t remember those being orange when I pulled them out but I wasn’t paying too much attention. Can you send me both? and I will send the wrong one back. You guys can keep the rim for something in the future too. I would think this is an original Kombi that was used for groceries…….so if you need to send one, just send orange. Keep the rim. Thanks so much, john.
in reply to: Toms rhd Oval Vert #40695Hey Franz. Did that mirror ever show up? I did receive the handles. Thanks a lot. they guy did send me a tracking number…I think it was coming from Belgium.
in reply to: 1957 Euro Palm Green/Sand Green, Logos, Semaphores #40694Truth be told, I am not sure what broke. But all visible things look fine…so I guess its the torsion bar. I do know that under full-loading, we heard a “POW” very loudly…I can only guess its the torsion. Hey John, that would be great if you could box one up and send it. Let me know what you need and I will paypal you. We set this swing arm at -6 degrees (or was it positive 6 degrees) as I recall. I think I will still buy those tools……good reason to get them.
