Mount his powder coated ORIGINAL safari’s 😎 😎YberParticipantDecember 10, 2019 at 9:56 amPost count: 122
Yeah – oh boy! Where should I start?
Wiring is first up – have to get that in and put in all the insulation before I can start putting in the camper interior.
Definitely mount the safaris – they’re all ready to go. Someone pointed me to some weatherstrip for them that fits perfectly- much better than repro OG style weatherstrip. It’s supposed to leak less (probably still some) than OG style. I think it was for a Saab hatchback.
The jalousie windows are already restored, so I’ll probably put them in right off too. The gas tank is also already restored and powder coated a nice gray.
OH BOY – reassembly is going to be BIG fun!!
Thanks to KCW for making our baby so gorgeous!!!YberParticipantDecember 10, 2019 at 9:58 amPost count: 122
Yeah – Willy’s right. Gotta get the shift rod in early…Pat KKeymasterDecember 11, 2019 at 5:53 amPost count: 1127
I have a feeling this will be driving sooner then most of us would guess.
If you’re going to use sound deadening insulation on the backside of the nose I would take care of that before you do any wiring upfront.
Keeps us updated. We like pics!
We will build it if it comes.YberParticipantDecember 11, 2019 at 7:55 amPost count: 122
Good point, Pat! It would be a nightmare to try to put insulation in behind the wiring!John JonesKeymasterDecember 12, 2019 at 9:32 amPost count: 5869
Brent.. may we please see the bus all jacked up in the garage.. maybe with the door open, you out in the snow?? 😎 😎
So… Have you put anything on the bus yet??? 😎WillyModeratorDecember 12, 2019 at 10:23 amPost count: 929

OK, KCW brothers and sisters – here are some pics of our baby safely on jack stands in the shop!
The engine for her is all ready to go – you can see it bagged under a bench in one pic. Same with the trans – it’s on an engine stand behind all the stuff covered with blankets. Still need to hang the axles and reduction boxes, but they’re all done. Under all the blankets is the interior/camper stuff, except the panelling (all cut to size, finished and ready to install) is in our storage garage out back.
Since we got her home I’ve had to work (like a dog) on outdoor chores – trying to get all that done before winter really hits us with a big storm. Then it’ll be too late. Soooo – so far all I’ve been able to do with our baby is order up some parts (wiring harness from WW) and go out and look at her! (It’s killing me!) I should be able to get started on her reassembly pretty soon – then look out! Pics will follow.WAY2COOLParticipantDecember 12, 2019 at 3:25 pmPost count: 143

The pinball machines are a nice touch!!! KCW needs a pinball machine in a corner somewhere! 😎YberParticipantDecember 13, 2019 at 3:26 pmPost count: 122
Dario – glad you like ’em! They are collectible vintage games that I played the hell out of back in the day.
I played Fireball (1970) in the local pool hall, and Captain Fantastic (1976 – video games, like Pong, were brand new) in a dive where I bartended. Vector (1980) is the first generation that had any real electronics. It has an electronic voice that insults you while you’re playing – maybe KCW needs one like Vector!John JonesKeymasterDecember 14, 2019 at 6:28 amPost count: 5869
Love your garage!!! Looks like an awesome place to hang out and build a bus… 😎volksaddictParticipantDecember 14, 2019 at 6:29 amPost count: 517
