What are the classes for VW 5/1600, Class 11? Is there an unlimited? I started looking into the different classes and the requirements to race. My next project build was a narrow eye Baja to have fun and tow behind the bus but I am having thoughts of making it a racing Baja now.
Class 11s is stock suspension, with full fenders, running a limited 1600DP.
5/1600s are you “basic Baja”. More suspension /parts upgrade options. Same motor as class11.
5 unlimited is full blown free reign on your suspension, but must still VW based. Several motor/trans options. Only VW motor option is T4. Big $$$$$ class. 70K+ for a class winning car. No class winning car still runs T4s.
We will build it if it comes.
I like the torsion bar adjuster idea, that’s cool.
Diggin the Class 5 idea, Baja the Fuck outta it and run a simple motor!!!!! Yeah!!!!!!😀😀😀😀😀😀
Why does the rear shock mount get chopped?
Class rules allow it. I’ll be running 14” stroke shocks that will require relocated upper mounts.
Reinforced the clutch cable tube a couple of days ago.
Also plated the vertical portion of the pan head conversion.
Riley helped me fit the pan head section today along with the new 4130 chromoly Kartek beam. Thanks Bud!
We will build it if it comes.
Great pics Pat!!!!!!!! Nice work Riley!
I love going on adventures in our bus!!!
Riley and I were back at it this morning. bending and fitting longitudinal‘s. Thank for all the help Mr.
Coped driver side sleeves to lower beam tube and rear torsion. Burning in the first piece of tube now!!!
We will build it if it comes.
Yesterday we also shimmed the pan to level on the jack stands, then used a laser level to check if it was twisted at all.
Everything measured titty on a Ritty. Burned in the pan head conversion slowly moving around to spread the heat evenly.
Front beam caster set at 4°.
We will build it if it comes.
Pat, what kind of welder are you using on the cast torsion tubes?

I’ve never had any issues welding to the torsion. Crank the heat up and let it ride.
NASCSR approved!!!
We will build it if it comes.
Awesome work Pat! I wonder how sweet my hill climb car would handle if I had the skills and patience you have…
It’s not flux core is it? I showed a friend a pic and he thought it was.
