so, John & Rusty really need another hobby and it seems like all you car guys need a second hobby that you talk about (endlesssly) and do anywhere… so I propose a book club that you guys can discuss right here on the KCW site…. I am sure all books/articles/whatever will be VW related…., so just post up a suggestion and start talking about it!!!!!!!!!
John is starting with the idiot book today!!!!!!😁😁😁😁😁😁😍

Only thing I’ve been reading is the recent hot VWs magazine.Pat KKeymasterMarch 14, 2019 at 5:11 pmPost count: 1208
Love the Idiot manual! Boaring as hell to just read through though.
My first VW shop was Bob’s VW on SLCs west side, bit east of where I lived.
Rode down there on my BMX before bought my folks bought me my ‘71 super.
Bob still owned it then. I asked enough questions to annoy him, and he figured out I was on my way my owning my first VW.
Only thing he would sell me was the idiot manual. Glad he did most useful book I’ve ever owned!
We will build it if it comes.Scott SainParticipantMarch 15, 2019 at 5:12 amPost count: 199PeteParticipantMarch 15, 2019 at 6:58 amPost count: 829
^^That was a great write-up. Fun weekend too!
+1 for the Idiot’s Guide. I have that and a ’58-’60 VW Type 1 Workshop Manual. The Idiot’s Guide is dog eared and grease stained, the Workshop manual is mint. I think my child-like mind gravitates more towards the cartoon illustrations over actual photographs. 🙂 🙂 🙂John JonesKeymasterMarch 16, 2019 at 11:18 amPost count: 6073
I have never been much of a reader… I bet I have only read three or four books cover to cover in my life… 😎 But I keep hoping I can gravitate towards some good reading.. There has got to be soooooo much to learn out there.. and something that can keep my interest…. 😎 I want to experience more out of life…. as much as I can…. History sounds interesting…and it seems to repeat itself over and over… 😎CorporateModeratorMarch 21, 2019 at 2:34 pmPost count: 756

At the Volksworld show this weekend selling signed copies. Been a crazy few weeks getting the truck ready…ended up having around 15 Patina cars inside as part of the display – unprecedented for Volksworld.mtnbusParticipantMarch 24, 2019 at 8:38 amPost count: 965
Thats an awesome display ! Congratulations on the book ! It must have been a lot of work.
My mother bought me my first copy of the “idiots guide” when I was 17. I read it (many times since then). She was laughing at the title when we were paying for it at the local book store in the mall. I have it somewhere and its all ripped up and taped etc.
A couple books I like about VWs:
Small Wonder about the history of VW
A bus will take you there, by Johnny Bock (fun stories about traveling in a vw)
The Reference Point, By Johnny Bock
Famous People I have known, By Ed McClanahan (story of Ed and his gfriend traveling backroads around the US in the late 60s/70s in a 59 panel bus and hitting every old honky tonk bar they came across and interviewing its patrons) The cover art is worth having the book.CorporateModeratorMarch 24, 2019 at 1:31 pmPost count: 756
