That’s awesome JJ πŸ‘. Are you finding those at good prices?? I’ve been looking thru marketplace too and can’t find anything at a reasonable price. Even the used newer stuff is listed for as much as I can buy a new kit. This hobby got expensive too!! πŸ˜‚

So JJ and the rest of y’all got me being nostalgic about my younger days and R/C stuff I had. I had the typical Tamiya Grasshopper & Hornet buggies. Then I got me a Blackfoot. The one I could never afford was the Porsche 959 kit. Such a bad ass kit.

So I started searching for one with my adult money. Holy crap. A used one is over $1200 on Ebay and Tamiya is not reproducing them and apparently parts are near impossible to find. ☹️

^^^^ I had a 959 in Korea. Raced it indoors on carpet. Had a Tamiya gold motor on 7 cells. Little dude could rip. Had to make some home made slicks though, the pin tread tires had to much grip on carpet. πŸ™‚

First run since 1999 & she rips! I only have $18 in this thing for a new Nimh battery lol. Now that I know everything works I’m gonna mess with new suspension/tires etc. also my vintage Tekin charger will blow up these new batteries so I have to look into a new one.

This is a Tamiya TL01 kit. I think they’ve advanced a ton since this one with the TT01 & TT02 platform. Back in β€˜99 a local hobby shop had an INDOOR asphalt track! Everyone ran these cars or the HPI cars. They would get 75-100 racers on Friday or Saturday night. It was awesome.

I had a sign shop at the time so I cut my own graphics and copied the Beetle on Gran Turismo 2 hahaha

I got my 4ws Capra crawler about as decked out as I can make it. Went brushless motor, everything under it upgraded. I’ll get a picture today.

here’s my newest plane. V1200… 140+ is what they say. I need to go somewhere to fly it, my place has space but not for that kinda speed.

For those unaware, look up Hotliner rc planes on Youtube.Β  I don’t know how you fly planes that fast.Β  My brain doesn’t process the speed, that’s why I stick to sailplanes.

You can take it a step further and look up Dynamic soaring…the fastest rc plane is a non powered sailplane…just under 600 mph!!!

btw, I just bought two new toys…a TRAXXAS Spartan sr boat and a TRAXXAS UDR…incredible! The boat is insanely fast for a stock out of the box boat and if it flips over it will self right on its own. the UDR…I have never had that much fun with an RC car before…I’ve never driven anything that fast and it looks and drives like a full scale trophy truck. its big and beefie with crazy long travel suspension. I felt like a kid again this weekend…stress free fun!

DS is incredible.Β  I used to fly slope planes, but waiting on the right conditions coupled with going to the right place when the conditions were on was a bit of a challenge.Β  I really liked flying thermal duration planes off the bungee as well.

These days I’m content to pull a foamie Radian or baby Radian out of the box, hand launch it and catch thermals for a couple of hours.Β  When it comes down or if the airs flat, I just bump the throttle and up it goes again.Β  I can fly the small one at the end of the street and hand catch it.Β  The big one needs some room, but you can fly these powered sailplanes pretty much anywhere.Β  Finding, catching, riding thermals is pretty damn relaxing and challenging, much like fishing.Β  In a way, it’s sky-fishing.Β  It makes you aware of all the subtleties of what’s happening in the sky.

Do it JJ! I’m telling you, its a BEAST!!! there is a huge aftermarket if you’re into dumping a bunch of money on crazy billet parts but right out of the box its an absolute winner.

Yeah we have a couple really nice slope sites fairly close but it is much like surfing…doing all the prep to hopefully get the right conditions is kinda lame. I have a 3.7 meter motor glider, you’re right, its such a relaxing thing to do. I have a discus launch glider as well…its a bit more physical but I REALLY enjoy it…getting 10+ minute flights out of a single hand launch is so rewarding.

Here is a pic of my motor glider, its a Vixen2 F5J. It’s all Carbon fiber, 3.7 Meter wingspan and only weighs about 56 ounces…which is kinda heavy considering some of the newer competition stuff is about 35 ounces.

Damn!Β  That’s a nice plane.Β  Makes my stuff look like packing material.

Someday, when I get a little more time to spend on that sort of thing, I’d like to invest in something a bit more high performance.Β  I still really dig the simplicity yet subtleties of sailplanes.
