Yeah, and luckily it looks like a lot of it could be just patched and treated. I talked to Marco from Buslab on the phone. He told me that pretty much the front cab panels are the only thing thats the same, the back half of the cab to the rear bumper is mostly different. I thought I’d be able to get the driver’s rocker panel from a regular vanagon, but I guess not.

Mike, did you buy any new panels for yours? If so, from where?

I’d like to get a beefier suspension and other adventure rig gear for this eventually and make a slick bed rack, but rust kinda has to be priority #1.

most asked about and photo’d bus in our group this year.. it is pretty awesome!!!!

EVERYONE LOOK! John Jones said a Vanagon was awesome!

Okay, so it looks like you don’t HAVE to jump your bus and bend the frame.

Started looking for some metal to attack the rust on this thing. Luckily a few guys pointed me in the right direction at BBB, but it sounds like I’ll be sourcing stuff from Europe or getting sections from donor buses. Oh boy! Some of it looks like I could just clean it up, treat it, and blend some paint over it. Other sections, ehhh not so much. The ugly stuff:

Yeah Jesse, did you catch the name of the magazine that German guy was taking photos for?

You need one of those Vintage Speed gas gauges for your bus… You not having a way to tell what you’re at AND having a thirsty bus will make it hard for you to relax on road trips!

I’m just using an older “entry-level” Cannon. I think phones now do like 80% of what the bigger DSLRs do, but when you think look at a phone picture or one taken with a real camera, I still think there’s a noticeable difference.
