in reply to: Chad’s ’66 SO36 Dormobile #62013Some top photos I’ve taken incase it helps… note that these were all cut-ins. Not originals.
in reply to: Chad’s ’66 SO36 Dormobile #61990LOL… go take pictures. 🙂
in reply to: Chad’s ’66 SO36 Dormobile #61920This is an amazing bus. Top looks awesome. Straight up KCW work. I’ve got the wiper in Durango if the KCW fam needs it I’ll pull it.
i’m not having any luck getting a restored one. If you’ve got a good 12v one and it’s not samba priced, pull it and send it ASAP. The help is greatly appreciated! Damn wiper assembly is holding up the show.
Didn’t hear back from Bodgoco, but did hear back from west coast wipers finally. WCW is sending a restored unit out asap.
Bodoco, appreciate the offer! Looks like we got it handled.
in reply to: Chad’s ’66 SO36 Dormobile #61919I just heard back from west coast wipers… restored unit headed your way!
in reply to: Chad’s ’66 SO36 Dormobile #61898Correct exhaust is headed your way VIA UPS today.
Rear IRS kit says it should deliver today.

in reply to: Chad’s ’66 SO36 Dormobile #61850I just looked back through emails… I bought this bus the first time in the summer of 2009. I didn’t get to use the top back then because the canvas was trashed. It’s pretty damn exciting to see it this close to being an actual functioning dormobile again.
The manual says leave an 1″ of slack on the long end to accommodate shrink. Having built one, and spoken with a couple more people that have installed the roof tents on these, I believe that is overkill and leaves the tent looking wrinkly and poorly fit. If doing it again, I wouldn’t leave more than 1/2″.
in reply to: Chad’s ’66 SO36 Dormobile #61841Just to be clear are you looking for the 65 one year only or a 66 6 volt?
We need a 66/67, preferably 12v
in reply to: Chad’s ’66 SO36 Dormobile #61819Wipers: I’m still trying to pin one down. I’m trying to connect with west coast wipers out of Oregon for a restored one but I think the holiday is getting in the way. No response. I looked up bitty’s bit. Cool site out of the UK that has what we need but… they’re seasonal, closed completely until 5/1/22. 🙁
I’m going to give west coast wipers another try today. If I’m still not getting anywhere I’ll buy a used one off samba and hope for the best.
in reply to: Chad’s ’66 SO36 Dormobile #61723What I found with the glass is that while you want to leave the rubber as long as possible to account for shrinkage… 1/4″ too long can be the difference between the window fitting or not fitting.
in reply to: Chad’s ’66 SO36 Dormobile #61710Way to go Pat! It’s deceiving how much work these tops are to assemble.
in reply to: Chad’s ’66 SO36 Dormobile #61693Keys fit!
Holy shit! … Awesome! … honestly wasn’t expecting that to work. 🙂
in reply to: Chad’s ’66 SO36 Dormobile #61692Transaxle is scraped clean and ready to send to Painter’s for rebuild.
Hey John… remember when I used to tell you you needed a lift in your shop? You would always tell me you didn’t need one. Then one day you finally broke down and got one… now you have what 3?
Well… John, you need a Hot Pressure Washer for your shop. It’ll cut your cleaning time in half or better and the parts will be a lot nicer to work with because it will clean much more thoroughly (nooks and crannies). All the dirt, grease and oil residue will come off without having to use heavy chemicals or scrape parts. Not to mention how quick and easy it’ll make cleaning up your rail and your racecar. Cold water just blows dirt around, hot water actually cleans.
You don’t have to get one from me, you won’t hurt my feelings. I’m sure there’s a local equipment dealer there in Junktown that can hook you up if you prefer. But take it from a guy who knows, you need one. It’s just like a lift, you can suffer through without one but you’ll kick yourself for waiting so long once you finally get one.
… Scooby thinks you should get one too… just sayin’. 🙂
in reply to: Chad’s ’66 SO36 Dormobile #61688Sooo glad we didn’t have to cut the tabs out.
That tool for the top window rubber and the keys that might fit the column lock went out UPS Monday. I bet you see them today or tomorrow. Found those keys in my old key pile and they don’t fit my deluxe so there’s a good chance they are spares from the first time I owned the bus. **fingers crossed**
Great to see this thing coming along!
