in reply to: Chad’s ’66 SO36 Dormobile #62925
Tires are inbound… ETA tomorrow.
I’m digging the wheels!
in reply to: Chad’s ’66 SO36 Dormobile #62895I should have a nose cone… I’ll look this weekend.
in reply to: Chad’s ’66 SO36 Dormobile #62881Would be great to have you guys put in the hard brake lines, I hate those.
Priority needs to be finishing the headliner, cots, the silent gliss cutain rails in roof and cab and finishing out the cab (seats, pedestal mats, seatbelts, etc) though. Don’t worry about cab interior cards (door/nose) and stereo, I’ll handle those later. I have a floor mat here if there’s not one already in the bus parts.
Franz has a priority list from me in an email from a while back.
in reply to: Chad’s ’66 SO36 Dormobile #62878Good news… You’ll have wheels on Monday.
in reply to: Chad’s ’66 SO36 Dormobile #62855Looking great guys…
I’m still fighting to get something headed your way for wheels. We’re still 2-3 weeks out best case.
in reply to: Chad’s ’66 SO36 Dormobile #62780awesome…
Seeing it on the lift reminded me, I need you guys to weld up the square access hole cut into the inner frame on the passenger side just forward of the belly pans.
in reply to: Chad’s ’66 SO36 Dormobile #62768From the Westy identification thread on the samba…
SO-36
Keep in mind that if you have a Dormobile (AKA: Dormie) top with a Westfalia interior,
you have what is called an SO-36. I have seen Dormobile roofs married w/ SO-34 and
SO-42 interiors, a poster to this thread has one with an SO-44 interior, and I’ve
heard of one married to a SO-45 as well. There were probably SO-35’s produced
in this configuration as well.in reply to: Chad’s ’66 SO36 Dormobile #62752Also do you have a headbanger cabinet? How does the rear finish out around the hinges and over the hatch?
SO36 (this bus) has the same camper kit as an SO42. There is a headbanger cabinet in the back just like an SO42.
in reply to: Chad’s ’66 SO36 Dormobile #62751Chad These are the best pics I’ve come across of where the headliner seams should be. Is this correct for your bus? Do you have a link or pics you’ve found? https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?p=4558967&highlight=#4558967
If you go back to page 11 of this thread, there are two photos I got from Clara which are original SO36 dormobile buses. The one at the link above is a guy out of Spain that added a roof to his bus himself. He did a very nice job, but it’s not really “correct” as far a the headliner goes. Original is best, but any headliner is better than having to figure it out myself. 🙂
in reply to: Chad’s ’66 SO36 Dormobile #62735Thanks for making it work… one more hurdle down.
in reply to: Chad’s ’66 SO36 Dormobile #62672Tried fitting the new wiper assy this morning, no go. Motor hits the vent tubing. We can convert the earlier 6V mech, that does fit, to a 12V Volvo motor that we have. Or source something from somewhere else?
$%!@&!!!!
They obviously screwed something up when they replaced the nose. Make whatever you can work.
in reply to: Chad’s ’66 SO36 Dormobile #62671Negatory good buddy… this kills pressure washer pumps. Pump seals are not rated for hot water. Hot water machines pump cold… then heat.
in reply to: Chad’s ’66 SO36 Dormobile #62650The guy with the Hotsy dealer could have save himself some money if he prepped it for us. How hot does the water get on one of those? I’m sure we could work-out a trade deal.
Good point… lol 🙂
Temp depends on the brand. All do at least 140f. Most do 170f. Nice ones do 190f. I have specialty units that will do 300f steam too.
Give me a call when you have a moment and we’ll figure out the best machine for you guys.
in reply to: Chad’s ’66 SO36 Dormobile #62648Another “YOU GUYS NEED A HOT PRESSURE WASHER” job… 🙂
in reply to: Chad’s ’66 SO36 Dormobile #62638Does the new wiper assembly fit right? Been biting my nails on that one.
Please remember to check headlight fitment… if I remember correctly, one of them isn’t in very solid. A little rotation and it just falls out.
