Really enjoying this build. Can’t wait to see the finish product.
Side note- I was always under the impression that SO36 is an SO34/SO35 (flip seat) with a dormobile top and 65-67 Doormobile top Westy are either designated as an SO42 or SO44 (depending on what SO interior it has).
From the Westy identification thread on the samba…
SO-36
Keep in mind that if you have a Dormobile (AKA: Dormie) top with a Westfalia interior,
you have what is called an SO-36. I have seen Dormobile roofs married w/ SO-34 and
SO-42 interiors, a poster to this thread has one with an SO-44 interior, and I’ve
heard of one married to a SO-45 as well. There were probably SO-35’s produced
in this configuration as well. This morning we cut more headliner pieces.
Later on I sealed everything we cut out.
Sanded and polished tent mounts.
Started on suspension mock up also.
We had some leftover pieces of Baltic birch from prev work. Managed to get 5 of the 6 panel from what we had.
Called our local supplier, nothing in stock. Going to see if JJ can grab a piece on his way back from Cali so we don’t have to have one couriered over from Denver.
Headliner panel look great after first coat of spar urethane.
Picked up parts from the zinc platers. Fancy!!!
Parts are starting to arrive.
Hit the KCW stash for a few that don’t come with the TypeE kits.
Most of the driver side rear suspension in place.
Front bearings packed, rotors ready to go on.
We will build it if it comes.
awesome…
Seeing it on the lift reminded me, I need you guys to weld up the square access hole cut into the inner frame on the passenger side just forward of the belly pans.
^^^ Will do.
Finished front brake assy.
Type E IRS kit is designed for beetle cv’s. We went with 944s for some extra beef and the short spline stub axles.
Required machining a bit off the stub axle cv flange to clear the bearing carrier.
And just a touch of chamfer added to the bearing carrier edge to clear the beefier stub axle crown.
Both stub axles moded. Other bearing carrier needs chamfering. One side down!!!
Flipped the headliner panels to seal the back side from any condensation that may occur. We will build it if it comes.
Finished bolting on rear suspension pieces and brake assemblies yesterday.
Riley sanded panels and I laid down a second coat.
Assembled the steering box as well.
We will build it if it comes.
Good day…started out mixing up some steering box lube , filled the box, and slid the column in.
Franz finished the wiper mech assy, installed it. Now he’s onto wiring.
Installed all of the door, hatch and lid mechs.
Clutch pedal pivot shaft was heavily worn on one end.
Welded and ground the worn area. Then polished the whole shaft.
New bushings, pedals and bits ready for install.
We will build it if it comes.
Electrical cleand-up and ready. Tested circuits and lights. All good. Parcel tray and final dash assembly tomorrow.
New WW wiper shafts.Damn.. You guys are knocking it out!!!! Awesome! Going to be an awesome camper!
Whats this about me bringing back some wood? 8-).
Damn that clutch lever!!!!!!!! Rusty…
Honesty can potentially harm your relationship 😢
Painted the ebrake handle black last night.
Looking great guys…
I’m still fighting to get something headed your way for wheels. We’re still 2-3 weeks out best case.
Looking BEAUTIFUL!!!! Ready to go camping – I can’t wait to see it in out the wild one day before you know it!! 😍
Kill em with Kindness 😎
Don’t worry, Be Happy 🤙🏻
Volkswagens Make People Smile!✌🏻Good news… You’ll have wheels on Monday.
^^^ Awesome!!!
Do you want us to get you brake system fully functional? Just hard lines?
Worked on this one yesterday. New bushing for the brake and clutch pedals.
All the pedals are in. Smooth and tight again. Just need a seal for the gas pedal rod.
Steering column. Had to trim around the hole in the floor to get everything to line up. Pretty common when the front floor is replaced.
Good to go. Hook up the ignition and a couple other bits to do on the dash.
We will build it if it comes.
