The guy with the Hotsy dealer could have save himself some money if he prepped it for us. How hot does the water get on one of those? I’m sure we could work-out a trade deal.
Good point… lol 🙂
Temp depends on the brand. All do at least 140f. Most do 170f. Nice ones do 190f. I have specialty units that will do 300f steam too.
Give me a call when you have a moment and we’ll figure out the best machine for you guys.
This morning I spent a while scraping gunk off the new beam. Sprayed degreaser on it, scrubbed it a bit, then power washed it.
Dad helped guide me through taking the old front beam and transmission out of the bus.
Then at the end of my day, I was starting to clean up some hardware on the wire wheel before it gets sent off for zinc plating.Hotsy KCW style.Â
Rearranged yesterday. On the lift now. Roller suspension and steering box pulled.Â
Sorry I didn’t get to it yesterday Chad. Tried fitting the new wiper assy this morning, no go.  Motor hits the vent tubing.
We can convert the earlier 6V mech, Â that does fit, Â to a 12V Volvo motor that we have. Or source something from somewhere else?
Slathered some por15 on the beam this morning.Â
Front rotors arrived yesterday.
We will build it if it comes.
Negatory good buddy… this kills pressure washer pumps. Pump seals are not rated for hot water. Hot water machines pump cold… then heat.

$%!@&!!!!
They obviously screwed something up when they replaced the nose. Make whatever you can work.
Finished cleaning hardware and dropped all the bits at the zinc shop on thur.
Also tore down the steering box for paint and fresh seals.Â
Bolted the beam back in along with disc caliper brackets this morning. Rotors should be back from zinc later today to continue.Â
Rounding up parts for a black paint session.
Franz is working on the wiper assy.
We will build it if it comes.
So 1965 has a special wiper motor with a different bottom. The core KCW had was in excellent condition. I took the bottom off and greased the gears.
I was able to use a Volvo rear hatch 12 volt armature and brushes to convert the 65. You can see the brushes are smaller along with more segments on the motor and thinner gauge wire.
65 wiper shafts on order from Wolfsburg West this morning.
Thanks for making it work… one more hurdle down.
I haven’t had a chance to put together a real instruction manual, so here are some pics if you haven’t got it figured out.
There are a few options to adjust the width. The arm mount can be slid out on the torsion housing a bit, and then the arm mounted on the outside of the spring plate if needed. I also have some spacers to go between the hub and the spring plate if the wheels have a strange offset. For most standard aftermarket wheels, the setup like the pictures are good. Mock up one side and get the width right, then go do the other side. If it gets much wider, I have CV spacers if needed. There are 4 longer M14 bolts in there. Those are to mount the lower shock mounts to the lower hub mount holes. The other 4 smaller fine thread bolts are for the calipers.
Let me know if you have any questions.
Brian
^^^ Thanks Brian.
Sandblasted, unstuck, rust repaired a few pieces, hung, and masked all the parts for a shiny black paint session yesterday.Â
Just laid down epoxy sealer.Â
We will build it if it comes.
Helped out with sealer and paint sessions this morning.
Had a reference piece that we used to cut the new passenger side roof panel. Made the new piece longer and now checking for fit.Got the VW hatch logo on as well.

These are the best pics I’ve come across of where the headliner seams should be.
Is this correct for your bus? Do you have a link or pics you’ve found?

We will build it if it comes.
Also do you have a headbanger cabinet?
How does the rear finish out around the hinges and over the hatch?
We will build it if it comes.

If you go back to page 11 of this thread, there are two photos I got from Clara which are original SO36 dormobile buses. The one at the link above is a guy out of Spain that added a roof to his bus himself. He did a very nice job, but it’s not really “correct” as far a the headliner goes. Original is best, but any headliner is better than having to figure it out myself. 🙂

SO36 (this bus) has the same camper kit as an SO42. There is a headbanger cabinet in the back just like an SO42.
