I got it unloaded and got to really look it over. So excited about this bus. But as projects always do… it’s sitting in the garage waiting. Soon…
When I got home, my plans for a new shop in my backyard finally got approved by the city. So nights and weekends right now are dedicated to clearing the area so the excavators can get started. Had to empty my 20×12 fully stuffed parts hoarde out of my shed to move the shed out of the way last weekend. Finish clearing space for the new shed location this weekend. Then reload the shed next weekend. Hope to be on it in a couple weeks.

Made it home. Glad I wasn’t driving it. Solid ice on the road and 30mph cross winds yesterday morning from snowville to the 84/86 junction. Had to pull over in Declo for about an hour after the wind blew me about 3ft sideways doing 30mph. Then 30mph head wind the rest of the way home.
Home safe. Now to unload.
in reply to: Chad’s ’66 SO36 Dormobile #63809Oh jeezus… that looks awesome. Thanks for rallying on it yesterday guys.
I’ll be there in an hour or so. We’ll put the old beam and trans and any other big greasy crap in the truck bed. We’ll load parts bins and such back in the bus.
in reply to: Chad’s ’66 SO36 Dormobile #63757Trans will be in and the other IRS parts I’m having you guys assemble will be done Friday I assume?
in reply to: Chad’s ’66 SO36 Dormobile #63756I’m going to start driving tomorrow… See you Saturday morning.
in reply to: Chad’s ’66 SO36 Dormobile #63713Those look awesome! Did you drill the hole in the back one for the westy tent mount? 🙂
Which cheek?
in reply to: Chad’s ’66 SO36 Dormobile #63709Youbetcha… tounge-kisses all around.
in reply to: Chad’s ’66 SO36 Dormobile #63668Thanks John… with bumpers done, all I have to left to do is mechanical. I’m bringing you guys a little present when I come down this weekend.
in reply to: Chad’s ’66 SO36 Dormobile #63454Weekend of the 19th, got it.
in reply to: Chad’s ’66 SO36 Dormobile #63198WOOO HOOO!!! *whistles* *cheers*
Pat, Riley, Franz, John, Corporate, Audrey… and Scooby. Thank you for all your help on this thing.
in reply to: Chad’s ’66 SO36 Dormobile #63136No worries on the paint… I’ll have Jesse touch it up back here. I’m just stoked we didn’t have to go deeper to get the doors sealing.
Racing is ridiculous baller money. I can’t hang. VWs are bad enough, but racing VWs takes a special kind of masochism. 🙂
in reply to: Chad’s ’66 SO36 Dormobile #63097Looking awesome… Excited to get it back.
We’ve hit the end of the cash for this project. Would love to have you guys keep going if we can work out some trade. Otherwise, I need to start planning a trip to come get it.
in reply to: Chad’s ’66 SO36 Dormobile #62995Silent gliss should just be the cab (like all SO42) and dormy roof (one rail above windows and one below), yes… Probably clean up the old rails for the cab.
All the other windows will get SO42 style westy curtain rods.
The curtain set in the box is for regular SO42… I’m going to have to call the guy and have him make special curtains for the roof.
in reply to: Chad’s ’66 SO36 Dormobile #62947I found a bus nose cone and hockey stick. 67 style. It will need a new hockey stick seal.
Going to send that tomorrow.
I’m also going to send you the type -e carrier housings and 944 stub axles for my double cab project. Can I talk you into ordering bearings and assembling those for me? After seeing the clearance work needed on the set for the dormy, you’re better qualified than I am.
in reply to: Chad’s ’66 SO36 Dormobile #62946me too…
