Great day. All of the suspension is assembled. CB performance 2โ narrowed ย beam and dropped spindles bolted-on with caster shims.
Needle bearing beam will ride nice.
New rubber bushings from an oem supplier.
Powdered as instructed in the Bentley manual.
New cables and bowden tubes installed with plenty of grease.
Heavy duty buckpack shift coupler is a nice piece.
Loc-tite and safety wired.
Grey rubber transaxle mounts from a bus are the most durable aside from solid mounts. Heavy-duty fully welded clutch arm/shaft and solid brass bushing. New Sachs throw-out bearing installed with super clips. That number on the case corresponds to a September 64, if I am reading thesamba.com chart correctly? Eddie listed a 1.32 3rd gear that would normally come in a 66 transaxle….Better for acceleration than the 1.26 most other years have.
I gotta ask, do you plan to do burn-outs or drag race launch this? Because if so, we should probably put the additional strap over the top of the gear carrier housing and maybe a kafer brace.
VW/German axle boot clamps were saved from tear-down and reused.
I haven’t ordered shock yet, Do you have a brand preference Tom? Koni’s are cool because they can be adjusted. Bilstein’s can take big hits better and ride a little more firm. Usually the stock type oil shocks are pretty good on a street machine.
That pan is some serious eye candy.ย So fresh and better than factory new.

I agree, pan porn for sure. ๐
Nice Franz!!!
Working on door parts this morning.ย
Cleaned and lubed window mechs. Both OG and now they work great.
Drivers door front mech has a broken spring and the rear is just worn the heck out. ย OG replacements pulled from the KCW stash.ย
Working on vent wings. Both frames are in good shape ย and should clean up nicely.
Just missing the pass latch.
We will build it if it comes.
Empi engine tin parts arrived. Type IV oil cooler/fan shroud. Welded race fan. Copper exhaust gaskets will never blow-out.
It’s all coming from apart!!!!!!!ย ๐ ๐ ๐

Looking fantastic guys!!!
Franz, For shocks I was thinking Koni, but whatever you think gives the best ride…..I’m more of a cruiser than a racer…so not planning to race or any John Force burnouts…lol!
Really like that shroud…..
Toto, I've a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore!
Finished cleaning and prepping door parts this morning.
Drivers glass was an aftermarket piece. Found an acceptable one with correct logos after a couple trips out back to the boneyard.
Parts should arrive next week to start on assy. Happy New year Tom.ย
We will build it if it comes.
Thanks Pat!ย Happy New Year!!ย Thanks for all of your, JJ, & Franz’s attention to details……Really makes the difference in a nice build!!!

Iโm having a fun time assembling all these nice new parts. Itโs like a model kit.
I packed bearings, assembled brakes and steering today. The original steering box was in good shape, it only needed fresh grease and adjustment. New German rag joint too.
The disc brake dual circuit master cylinder is going to need a conversion tube to fit the stock single reservoir. Or there is a reservoir that mounts directly to the master cylinderโฆbut itโs kind of hard to access that way.
Rear brakes assembled and adjusted. Crispy new star adjusters/hardware. I filled the transaxle with oil, ready to go.
I had to get out one of the flat4 limited production chrome BRM wheels for pictures. Itโs going to look sooo good.Fuchin awesome shit!!!! ย Nice pan!!! ย Nice way to finish a week and year!!
the wheels look awesome!!!! ๐๐ป๐๐ป๐๐ป๐๐ป๐๐ป๐๐ป๐๐ป๐๐ป๐๐ป๐๐ป

Thought a little more on the shocks…had good luck with the KYB Gas adjust series…..

Car looks awesome.ย ย Cool seeing a bug-build in the shop…….brings back good memories.ย ย ย Congrats, Tom.
Thanks U!ย Yeah this is the difference between KCW – Guys that know, build, and live/love these cars vs. a shop that has a picture of a bug on their business card and claim to know what they’re doing….lol!
