    Nice clean happy looking engine!

What head gaskets and gasket surface preperation did you use?

Hey Travis. I just went with some DNJ parts from amazon. Went back to composite head gaskets. For surface prep, I just used 180 sand paper on a 12″ sanding bar I have, and cleaned up the mating surface. Checked it with a precision ground straight edge, and a .001″ feeler gage to check warpage.

Soon I hope. Been in a major funk lately, not real motivated. Might be the heat, that wears me down quick these days.

BFB77DA9-770A-44D0-86C9-B1BFED1BE8C9Back to normal. First real trip to the model flying field today. About 40 miles round trip, temp cycling at 170-180, that’s perfect.

Came home on a wrecker Saturday from the flying field. Pulling out onto the highway, felt something pop in the clutch. Clutch tube broke loose from the frame up front. Maybe cable is breaking to. I clamped a pair of vise grips on the clutch tube and bracket, but still couldn’t get enough clutch release to get in gear. So, I’ll have to do some trouble shooting. I’m getting to old for this crap! 🙂

Bummer Ben. Probably just the tube coming loose. The usually start breaking the welds at the torsion housing where the Bowden tube connects…if yours is broke at the front, I’m willing to bet its broken all the welds down the length of the tube.

I’m scared my next trip will end up that way… 😎  My bus is about worn out again!!!

This is the kind of shit that forces a guy to buy some more modern reliable transportation…

I understand if you sell it Ben…  But now you gotta fix it first!!! fuck man…

Yea, I’ll be checking all welds. If it was just the front, vise grips would have got me home.

I hear ya. I’m honestly considering selling/trade. If I could get ten grand cash and a usable non-project truck, I’d be a happy camper. Problem right now is with no real volume of new trucks on the market,  decent used trucks are through the roof.

Along with the clutch tube forward bracket pulling loose, I was eating another clutch cable. So put in another new one and a new boudin tube. On every cable I’ve installed lately, I’ve noticed a little piece of plastic sleeve on the cable. Thinking about this and noticing that my cable always breaks right where the boudin tube and clutch tube meet, I maneuvered the sleeve to this area. Can anyone confirm this is the correct use of this sleeve. Never occurred to me to ask about it before. 🙂
