Bummer. Good thing there are a lot of crashed subarus out there with good engines…

You know it! How’s your recent acquisition going? Motor pulled yet? I’ll grab that five speed and clutch stuff if you don’t plan to use it. I highly recommend you do though. The conversion cost is pretty steep, but when compared to rebuilding the VW trans, it’s pretty cost effective.

I have not started to dismember the crashed subaru yet. It will be a project for when I am less busy with customer stuff and of course RACE SEASON. It sure feels good to go racing again! You have got my gears turning on that 5 speed transmission now Ben. I dont know how long the transmission in my bugaru will hold up to race use. I could even save money not getting the ring and pinion gear and mid mount the engine… even a turbo engine? Proper poor boy race car shit.  Maybe use the current KEP adapter for my wife’s Vanagon if it would interchange…. hmmm…. But the nice thing about my bugaru now is how reliable the stock chassis and stock engine are. I wonder how long my head gaskets will last… Had yours been replaced?

Yes, Andy and I replaced them when I did the swap.

Hey Ben…. Remember them straight axle buses we used to drive….  You had a 1776 that never skipped a beat, I always ran the big boys…  but lighter straight axle busses seem to be the ticket… 😎

Got all my shit home in one trip! My friend that loaned me his rig, even rode along so I wouldn’t have a return trip to deal with. I’ll start tearing into the engine next week.

Glad you made it home safe and sound… super bummed that you are still having bus issue’s..  The summer kills our cars….  I think busses are hard on mechanicals no matter what you put in it.

No metal on the drain plug, oil looked brand new after a thousand miles, so I put it back in. Welded up some cracks in the driver’s side frame rail by my bumper hitch mounts. Ready for engine installation, but not feeling good today. Maybe tomorrow.
