What an incredible week. Yeah, we can put a bus together in 5 days….if 5 people are working on it.
There are always 1000 problems that you don’t think of. Parts fitting, things missing, stuff broken…It’s always a struggle. I’m glad we could help Scott get over the hard part and leave here with a functional machine.
Scott was supposed to be at work today. 🙂 We pushed so hard all week that I doubt he is functioning condition after driving all yesterday.
What an awesome rig!!!! It is sooooo fucking cute!!! It looks just right!!!!
Yeah…. That last week was something… We got through it well… Completely put a bus together in a week… Fucking nuts!
But what a lot of people didn’t see, Scott bought Breakfast Every morning for anyone who wanted to show up!! For 9 days!!! And he had to cover the boys hours right to the end…. And no he isn’t a baller… He had to borrow the money to finish this awesome rig… It is a dream truck for Scott… He bit the bullet, paid the boys to help him finish it in 5 days instead of like 5 months from now…. 😎 What is 5 months of evenings and weekends worth to you? 😎 😎 😎
In the end, Scott has a rig that 99% of Volks Folks are absolutely going to flip over. The other 1% are purists and their opinion doesn’t count anyway. And even people who really don’t know anything about vintage VWs are going to love this one.
Yeah, I’d say I love busses as much as anyone!!! And I fucking love it!!!!’ Everyone who sees it is gonna flip out!!!!!!
So Scott… I know your home…. Lets see a pic of it at home!!!! 😎
Sorry for not posting sooner…….
I finally made it home late Friday night. Got a good nights sleep and went right back to work half dazed.
A HUGE shout out to the entire KCW crew. I want to thank John for our very long friendship which is probably the only way I talked him into building a shorty. You are a great friend and I appreciate all that you have done for me over the years from my dumb phone calls and emails to building me the best damn shorty on earth!
Thank you to Corporate for putting up with me in your house for like 10 days and feeding me great dinners. She is a damn good cook guys.
Pat and Franz I owe you guys a big thank you as well. You guys killed the assembly of this bus from dialing in the suspension, modifying the E-brakes to work and the tons of other modifications and little things no one will ever see. You guys are a well oiled machine and quite honestly it is great to see two guys with so much knowledge and skill work well together.
Audrey I appreciate all of the work you put into this project as well. From sanding, assisting in the paint booth, assembly and running the media empire for KCW. You are the ultimate bus girl!
As the saying goes, good work ain’t cheap and cheap work ain’t good. I went well past my budget, I sold a crap ton of projects and other cars to help afford this as I am not a baller. I am working class guy with a wife and two kids. I saved and hustled my ass off to build this truck. I also had to get a small loan to pay for the last days work but it was well worth every penny.
There is not another VW shop on the planet that will let you dude ranch part of your build and put you up in their home and be a part of their family. You all made my crazy ass dream come true.
Thank you to all of KCW family and crew for an amazing experience, friendship and kick ass little truck.
The truck is still buried in the trailer as the weather sucks outside right now and I am working for the next couple of days. The first sunny day I am cruising this down the Pacific Coast Highway and will post pictures.
Also, Big Ben, this truck was all your fault. I loved riding in yours all those years ago and regretted not buying it when you offered it to me.

What a blast from the past. We are both a bit bigger now than in that pic. 🙂 Remember we couldn’t back out of the driveway with our big asses weighing down the front? LOL! I also wonder if that center pin gouge is still in the road coming from JJ’s old house? Oh, I’ll take the blame for this one gladly. It is truely the best Shorty ever!
I'm at the age where "fuck off", "fuck you", and "fuck it" answer most questions.
Ben nailed it BSOE Best Shorty On Earth
This thread makes me smile.. This is how projects are supposed to go… 😎 This is exactly how the KCW experience works… 😎 If you know you know, if you don’t, you won’t!!! 😎 😎 😎
Thanks Scott!!!! Thanks Franz and Pat!! This is how it’s done!!!! 😎
We assembled this bus in one week!!! WHAT!!!!! 😎
It’s always pretty fun when we get to build a car for a good friend – especially when they come stay at the compound and put some sweat equity into thier bus too 👌🏻 In case anyone didn’t realize – building Volkswagens is real work
Thank you for breakfast and lots of good times and laughs, Scott!! I had lots of fun and learned A TON working on your bus 😊
I’m afraid for the next guy I date… now he has to pass Scott’s tests too 😂
I made a quick video of the Paint Job – only took us 4:20 😉
Haha this truck is such a riot. She’s got some real power to be able to pick the front end up WITH you in it, Scott!
moving this thread back up!!! Crazy how this was our only focus in life for like a week and now it’s already on the second page 😂
Shorty still hiding in this trailer?!
