I’m still charging $85 an hour.. which is less than Kia mechanics charge…  8-( 8-(

    That’ some funny shit there!!

Pretty damn cheap, but a full resto still adds up to a 100k car. And it doesn’t perform like a 30k rice burner cookie cutter driver 🙁

If I had the $$$$ you know I’d be on the doorstep every day pushing to have you do one for me.  Maybe you are done…and maybe you just need some time off to work through some stuff. Finish up what is on the floor,  polish off your personal rigs, help some friends get their stuff under control  …..  After a while you may well find you miss the action and ease that closed door open a bit again.  Once you have been doing something for over 20 years, just walking away cold is much harder to do than one might think. Happened to me. After being “retired” for a few years I agreed to take on a project for a friend who let too many jobs stack up in his shop.  I don’t intend to restart the business, but a small job now and then ……..I think I probably will.

I thought of starting a new thread for this but it belongs in randomness, thoughts.

Passed the remains of a nasty car wreck yesterday, 2 suvs, full speed on the highway, front quarter impact for both of them, both vehicles ripped open to the back seats, cops putting sawdust on red liquid on the pavement. No way those drivers lived.

I’d guess that one of them swung wide on the gentle curve, hill, probably distracted, phone maybe. Just a guess.

Normally doesn’t bother me, not the first time I’ve seen it but It’s been on my mind since.

I drive and phone, I’ve drifted into the oncoming, that could have been me…

Life can change in an instant! Sure did for at least a couple families yesterday.

*Please everyone- be careful out there! Pay attention, the other guy may not be. It would really suck if that was any of you guys on here, including you all that I don’t know. *

And that goes double for you daily antique car drivers and 2 wheelers, John, Bubba, Rusty, you are riding in a paper cup that handles like a turd compared to today’s soccer mom haulers that outweigh you by multiples!

    Please everyone be careful!!!!

Just be careful! Life is fragile!!

Unless you’re skilled and have ALL the requisite tools, you’ve got to pay to play. Y’all did a SC for my Dad a few years back. I quit tallying receipts after 50K… who gives a fuck at that point? He’s 87, still entering shows and winning trophies and grinning like an opossum. Hard to put a price on that.

Irresponsible, self absorbed assholes driving whilst using a cellphone… well, fuck em.

The common man’s car has gotten super expensive in the 30+ years I have played with them. Plus most of these cars have had a rough life. Thank goodness for businesses making great reproduction metal and such. Unless you have the skills, tools and time you still gotta pay a skilled VW guy to weld it in, body work it, then paint it. Paint materials have sky rocketed as well. Hell, a trans rebuild for a simple bug straight axle is hovering between $1200 to $1500 now. My mini truck cost me over double what the Smuggler did in 2006. It was well worth it in my eyes since I have the nicest short bus on the planet. No other shop would have taken on that project, not to mention the attention to detail from all those who were involved. I can’t thank you enough for letting me help a bit, but for also making my dream a reality.

yup, like John said- this shit’s almost unsustainable! I had to grab some hardware for a project today….couple bolts/washers…$20.03!! Shit is out of control.

in my town ACE hardware is awesome, but so damn expensive.  hardware like that 2-3 times more than the depot.  Hate to say that and I support Ace when I can (plus literally across the street) but on some things they aren’t even competitive.

Still working on this can of worms! Didn’t expect to rebuild the ENTIRE brake system but whatever. Just waiting on some of that green braided brake hose so I can plumb my reservoir and bleed these things. Gotta put a clutch cable in it also. The list grows as I work.
