Saturday my back kicked my ass and I didn’t do much… but a lot of sleeping.. So Sunday I felt the need to get something done!!!

So Sand rail was next, and it’s dune season!!!!  So… The boys pushed it in for me and Rusty and I got on it!  I never liked the look of the chassis on this.. the top… so I spent sunday taking the “Fugly” out of the chassis… starting with those huge heavy seats!!!!

scooting the seat  back, which is making me do ton’s of fab work, moving gas tank etc..  pedals need to come back like 10″!!!!

realizing I have created a full sand rail build here… and there is no doubt sand season will come and go before I get this done, or even get the mechanicals all bought and paid for…  Next spring I could have her ready….   darn it…  8-(   there’s always Glamis!!!

Makes the one Kevin Leake showed me last weekend look pretty appealing..8-)  it was less than a motor cost… and done.. 😎

I am balls deep now in this project….  or maybe I should say committed.. or maybe, I need to be committed for starting this!!!! 😎 😎  No way!!! I see many many fun times at the dunes ahead of me!!!!! 😎  I love me some sand dunes… and I am going to build me a machine for the dunes!!!!   I dunno why I HAVE to build everything I own…  It’s a gift and a curse…. 😎

I cut the whole floor out!! it was over built and too heavy for the project goal… 😎

Seems those who can are broke dicks like me and you Ben… 😎  😎  I mean that with all due respect. 😎 But it seems to be true.

I think I have my seat figured out… I just gotta do it…   😎 Then pedals, shifter, and maybe I can start moving forward from there!!!!

The last few days of basting I have wanted a shower early.. which lead to some dinner, and then the recliner… 😎 😎  I seem to be more of a morning person than a late night person the last few years…  Doing a “second” shift is not as appealing as it once was, and certainly not as easy…. 😎  I have to dig deep and find some motivation to get this rail done.   I need to call painters and get my tranny going.. But I fear the tranny alone will cost as much as buying a WHOLE NOTHER RAIL!!!!!!! 8-(  8-(   If I am going to get any local / current friends into the dunes.. I imagine me having more than one car would be a great start!!!   😎

Ya, I’m definitely broke dick status! Just live within your means my dad used to say. It’s a point of pride for me to have something unique, I built myself over some shinny new toy.

I’m no hipster, but I’d happily pay to camp at the KCW compound for a few days in my 04 Tacoma !

I’ve been a daily KCW lurker since 2012. When the old site went down, I went into total withdrawal.  my wife said that I was moping around like my dog died.  I have the highest respect for the craftsmanship, experience and dedication that JJ, Franz, Pat and team bring everyday! As anyone who toils on these old shit boxes knows, what the KCW team does everyday is astounding in both volume, pace and quality of work. It takes a lot more than a hipster beard, an Instagram account and buffalo plaid shirt to make VW dreams come true- it takes YEARS of actual EXPERIENCE and cumulative KNOWLEDGE that can only be obtained by DOING WORK everyday!

I feel that i can speak for the many faceless KCW fans, when I say thank you for doing what you do; and thank you for the site and community that has grown with it.  Best wishes and many more years of success.
