Attitude is everything ๐คI am picking up my third transaxle tomorrow. I made it home from KCW this summer on that noisy new tranny. Made it 10,000 miles. Main input shaft bearing failed and I believe ring and pinion. At any rate , needed a complete rebuild. Put in my spare, which was also new and couldnโt stay in 4th at all. Changed all the bushings, did all the stuff. Apparently the new brass synchros for 4th gear are just a snipple too tight. Drove it to see if I could force some wear but nope. Held it in gear for 1000 miles (bungie wasnโt strong enough) and pulled it out yesterday. Taking it tomorrow to โmy guyโ. Feel like a bird with a clipped wing. The upside is I replaced my spring plate bushings this time and boy did they need it. ย I wish I was closer and could help you John.
Damn Sarah how was that right arm after holding in 4th for 1000 miles?! ๐
transmission issues suck!! Basically the worst type of break downโฆ ohhh river! ๐ฅบ
im so thankful for Robert in Encinitas and Paradise who helped me with my issues a couple years ago ๐๐ป
Kill em with Kindness ๐
My shoulder still hasnโt recovered!
I talked to Eddie today about these 4th year issues. ย He thinks maybe we arenโt turning enough rpmโs with these big motors and 3.88 r/p set ups and big ol tires too.. ย he said 4 gear is the farthest from the oil.. ย and needs rpm to sling oil up there?????

Eddie’s right on the money. Especially when towing. I learned that the hard way with Subie power. I could climb most highway situations in fourth, but it heated up fourth gear fast. After two fourth gear failures, I got wise and climbed everything in third. On that trip back from steamboat with the headwinds, I was in third for over 70 miles doing 60mph.
I'm at the age where "fuck off", "fuck you", and "fuck it" answer most questions.
Hmm that *is* ย interesting. Iโll talk to my guy tomorrow and hear his thoughts. We did do a comparison between a NOS and a new synchro gear and the new one definitely sat further away than the original one, teeth barely touched. Iโll take pictures. Transmission stuff bums me out, but mainly because Iโm on the ground doing it.
