Getting so excited for this rack, so many options to make it so unique but I am now trying to keep weight low. I will have a big 270 awning mounting to the side that covers one side and the rear of the bus.

Plans from the other day. 98 feet of 3/4” x .062 tube. Does anybody want slots for bicycle tires?

slots for bike tires would be cool but I think my bike days are over, it will be full of kid shit soon. If I do sky deck now will this tube be strong enough? If not no problem I wont sky deck.

RIGHT!!!! Thats how my little crappy roof rack turned into a sky deck and an awning!!!! The awning has been priceless!!! and I do love my skydeck!! I don’t get up there as much as I used too…. but.. I still love how I can pie SOOOO much shit up there… Might need like 8 clamps on the rack I would make!!! On shasta… the most common break is roof rack legs… So.. If Jason actually plans on rallying this rig, maybe the legs need a gusset or a triangle brace???

I think reinforcement on the legs is a good idea, I am also thinking of making it to where I can sky deck if I want with some wood strips. Maybe some tabs to bolt the wood strips on but still allowing straps to go through to the bars?

    I also like BIG RACKS…

Nice job on that Emblem!!!! OG PAINT!!

Yeah the stripper I use takes awhile but does not harm the original paint, same stuff I used on the bus. I was amazed how well it looks so far under the respray. I also like BIG RACKS and NICE LEGS. I also decided to not blend in original paint, only toughing up bare metal by hand with color matched gray primer and wet sand smooth. Only place for paint will be the rockers but they will get painted and color matched Raptorliner that will cover it all up.

I am shipping out the clamps and loops today.

Big post there!  Must of had a key board !!!!

All sounds good….   we have plenty to talk about when you get here.  We will build the basic rack  before you get here…  I bet you end up doing all kinds of things to your bus while here.

Been a wild ride, but it got me here 😎

I wanted to update my thoughts and ask a couple q’s on the rack. Definitely doing wood slats, probably going with poplar as it is cost effective and easy to get and in the hardwood category.

Franz, on the bars that run lengthwise (front to back of bus) is it possible to put those on top of the cross bars that run side to side? Looking at the BBOE the long bars run underneath the cross bars.  My thinking is the wood would lay nicely with those bars and I could run my electrical in a tube between the wood slats and have it all flat.

Also, what will the length be between the front leg mount and rear leg mount (front of bus to rear of bus), I am looking at 12′ long 1×3 boards for decking. Looking at you measurements above I calculated 12′

That is a lot of pipe laying there, I will be there next Thursday the 6th to Monday the 10th at the latest.

Trying to get all the windows in and bumper on the rear this weekend.

Polished the roof and KBS coated, seam sealed and painted the gutter.

Setting up the rack factory. I got your email this morning Jason. We’ll wait to weld until you get here so that we can make sure it clears the chimney.

Awesome! I’m getting so excited, I forgot about the intake. Trying to get the rear bumper finished, doors and windows in so its a sealed unit coming down otherwise it will pour rain or snow on it. I am planning to leave SLC around 10-11 am.
