Once you decide you want to get something paid off or paid for, and make it your only purpose in life, it goes pretty quick….
The product of every old man that took the time to teach me something ššš. Thanksā¤ļø
I have gone as far as telling people who ask, yes, I’ll sell my bus. I just quote a ridiculously high price and hope they don’t pull out a wad of cash. š
Would solve a few current problems, but then I’d be out of a bus.
I'm at the age where "fuck off", "fuck you", and "fuck it" answer most questions.
A good bus is hard to get. If you sell it, youāll be right back at the same spot with another project.. Because that is what you want.
I always feel like āIām not going to do this againā at project mid point. When Iāve put everything into something and still have so much more to go. Be tough, focus, and set small goals. Youāll get there.
It is great to have so many friends talk you off the cliff, I look at the debt and think it would be so easy to sell it all. Then be financially free and could do whatever I want but then I wouldn’t have a VW to hang out with such an awesome group and would still be in the truck.Ā Then in a few years I would be right back where I am looking for something else to get or work on.
The tipping point was we had our old cast iron sewer stack rust through and that ended up as a full bathroom remodel because they had to tear into the wall to cut it out. Home ownership is awesome but it also has its downside. It has whatĀ like to call the snowball effect, like most projects become. Now we have all new sewer pipes, new water lines vs the galvanized pipe and a new bathroom,Ā no longer a pink and blue 50’s bathroom. It has been difficult because I could do all the work but I find that my time have become so valuable that paying somebody to do it is worth it.
I have a couple projects that will be going up for sale this year, my first car a 1969 convertible beetle, sand rail with bus transmission, 1990 automatic Vanagon tin top, and selling some of the parts and VW collectibles I have off. Need to trim the fat around here.
The Thing is probably going to be up for sale but that might be next year. The bus would be that absolute last resort. For now I will continue to work on it and I will definitely reach out to you guys and plan on coming back for a few items to finish on it. I need to buckle down and quit buying so many shakes š not only because of the cost but my metabolism isn’t what it was.
I think it brings comfort to know “we” are not alone…
We ALL go through rough times, we all go through struggles, we all get ourselves into debt, we all buy too many shakes from time to time..Ā Ā and you may have to go through this a few times, but know, that you can get through it, you WILL get through it.. Be tough, be strong, be focused and DO WORK!!!Ā Do work… and then do some more work…Ā Ā Work will bring your freedom to you… I promise… I give you the JJ promise on that…Ā Ā šĀ šĀ š

LIFE!!!!!!! UUUUUGH!!!!
All tsunamiās just look like ripples on the pond after youāve made it through them.
Good to know your backing away from the edge on this one.
This may be the new BBOE when it done!!!
We will build it if it comes.

I am not sure about the new BBOE, there is only one and I don’t want to take away from how awesome it is. I have takeen many of my ideas from that bus and have several reference pictures to use. BBOE is the first Split I drove when we were in the Swell, I have only driven two. I have jokingly made a comment I think to Cole that this will be BBIG Best Bus In the Galaxy š
I will be putting some more work in on it this weekend, hopefully have the floors and door repairs welded in. Trying to figure out the Chinese diesel heater placement and fuel tank now. Might have to make a custom small 2 gallon tank to fit somewhere.
Pat that is a great quote “All tsunamiās just look like ripples on the pond after youāve made it through them”. Looking at the current situation, this has taught me that I have too much and need to simplify. At least I am doing it now and not at retirement.
Your bus rocks already Jason! Get it on the road and youāll see! Buses are the shit! Canāt wait to get out with you soon
I need some advice, I am trying to figure out where to put the filler for the diesel tank to the diesel heater.
I am thinking of the tank sitting right above the wheel well and having a custom tank made.Ā
So far this location makes the most sense and it only needs to be about 2 gallons.
My question is what will look the best on the outside. I am thinking of something in this location.Ā
I am leaning either welding in another gas flap but the area is very tight or using an early bay neck and modifying it so it does not stick out so far on the body with a cap on the outside. I am open to other ideas also.
Thoughts or opinions?
I donāt like the idea of cutting up your exterior.
Could you work a flexible hose through the side gap next to the stock filler? Small mount plate tacked in for support at the upper end.
We will build it if it comes.
I was thinking the same thing as Pat.
I just got my diesel heater on Saturday. Will be installing in next few days.

I was thinking the exact same spot but didn’t think it was large enough. I will take a look again. My concern would be getting a pump nozzle in there to fill it.
My 2 cents,Ā get a def fill neck and cap from a diesel truck.Ā Look in a new Ram diesel fuel door . IĀ think it shouldĀ fit
Leave the filler hoseĀ little long so you can pull it out to fill-up?
