Finished grinding and blasting the underside just in time for the snow to fly. Then degreased it and used the POR15 Metal prep acid bath to convert rust and prep for POR15 and Raptor liner.
Also enclosed the carport with some homemade panels so I can put some heat in it and help with the wind. Should help getting this done this winter, I’m getting old haha and the cold concrete and cold in general is bothering me more each year.
Looking good Jason. The cold sucks. I think its going to be a big snow year.

Thanks, Yeah I have heard that same thing about snow from several people. I love winter and could work no problem in it but last year the cold concrete started making my feet cold and then me ultimately being cold and that changed me being able to bust ass on cars. This year I bought some quilted Carhart Bibs, so that hopefully helps.
I was able to do some work on the bus over the holidays but not as much as I hoped as our sewer stack went out and we are in a full bathroom remodel. As I said in the dirty shop” Life is a constant negotiation”. Thankfully we have had a mild winter and it has not been too cold in the carport, think I might call it the igloo.
First I want to say Thanks Pat, Franz, and John for teaching me about metal work, I feel much more comfortable about it and decided to cut out the passenger floor and replace it. It was too thin and weak for me. I also cut out the bottom of the inner door and replaced the rusted out sections
I tried to weld up the rust on the rear outer cargo door but it was too thin and I decided that I will replace it.
I took some time with a dolly and hammer and was able to get the corner out and almost back to original. This section had about 1/4 inch of bondo.
I cut the floor and mocked it up with the compartments, I think it is going to turn out awesome!
Lastly I have been trying to figure out what to do for an intake/ snorkel. A friend recommended welding in the panel style vents and fabricating something. I didn’t want to lose more original paint but I think it is a worthy sacrifice. I am sure it will throw some off having panel vents and I plan to do four vents over the three vents the panels originally had.
I like the direction you’re going with this
Looking better every time we see it!!! Can’t wait to see it on shasta!!! 😎 Or any campout!!!!!!!!!!!
Been a wild ride, but it got me here 😎

Thanks John, I need to quit adding shit to the build haha. Cole 3 weeks is tight haha, I could probably do it if I pulled all nighters but no engine built makes it almost impossible. Hopefully next year for Shasta and planning on camping this year in it.
Every time I post here it doesn’t feel like I get much done and all I can think is the movie Happy Gilmore, just a little work at a time.
LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL… Jason. You just started on the most complicated journey you will ever embark on….. Raising kids… It’s a commitment…. It comes before anything you will ever care about…. but it’s awesome in the end.. It only sucks for like 18 years… Then it gets better!!!!! 😎

I never thought this time would come but I have been doing some serious contemplating about selling the bus. Life has thrown some serious curve balls lately at me and I want to become more free and especially debt free. I have a few other projects to sell first including the Thing and the bus would be that last. I figure once I have the freedom of debt, I can save up and get something down the road. Life is definitely a constant negotiation.
Gotta keep that bus! Buses make life better! You’ve got so much time and effort into it. I think you’ve gotta see it to the end and experience a split bus!
That’s crazy talk!
Maybe just scale it back a bit… get it driving. Then do all custom projects later on the weekend when you feel like it.
I’m sure we could find some time to prep and paint if you can make it out here for a weekend.

I dunno the details… But I can tell you… I have been in similar positions.. I have had to sell everything, to get out of debt and have nothing… not much fun… till you manage to get caught again and start collecting a few things again…
You said it PERFECT Jason… Life, is a constant, negotiation. I wish you the best, and I will help you in any way I can.. You just gotta ask.. 😎

Maybe it’s in the water Jason. I have been thinking about the same thing since Christmas…If I could sell the dc for enough, I could pay off the house and be debt free…or wait 5 more years…. it’s a tough decision, but whatever you choose, I’m sure it will be what’s best for you and your family.
