So fuckin eh! I’m gearing up for this kombi build….my 55 rag is dead to me, I’m gonna throw the cover over it for a year and get this bus on the road instead of fix the motor this winter! I have 90% of the shit I need, started with a raped shell and had to source pretty much everything, only thing left is an order of funky? Can’t wait to road trip this ol girl!John JonesKeymasterSeptember 13, 2017 at 11:35 pmPost count: 7076
I fuckin EH support this project….. although I hate the idea of leaving the Ragtop broke….
Bamfeild would make a good break in cruise.. 😉RustabusParticipantSeptember 14, 2017 at 9:06 pmPost count: 1998

Been cutting on this rig last couple days?Got the OG battery side corner on too. Just placed a big ass gerson order to make this rusty pile a reality?68tintopParticipantSeptember 24, 2017 at 8:21 amPost count: 741
Nice job cutting all that rust out. Sweet L31 army 55 panel 56 Kombi & 58 DD panel that would be a sweet line up with scar face in front cruisen. Next year sturgisJohn JonesKeymasterSeptember 24, 2017 at 8:25 amPost count: 7076
Damn Josh.. Looking awesome.. and I see your doing it at home too.. You do have a killer garage at home!!!
I can’t wait to be cruising with ya to some campout..

Your a badd ass Josh… Just wanted to remind you… 😉 😉JbParticipantSeptember 24, 2017 at 9:41 amPost count: 639
Yeah, there no room at the shop yet….all that shit would have taken me a 1/10th if the time if I didn’t have to silently cut it out…..see those tin snips on the cargo floor pic ????
been kicking ass on this 65 calllooker trying to make it go away soon so the kombi has some realestate at tripleJs!!
Spent the night lastnight huffing citrastrip making a set of year correct crows feet beautiful silver white againJbParticipantSeptember 24, 2017 at 10:05 amPost count: 639
Oh and I’m super jacked about getting this bitch out road tripping and camping….I wanna explore some Colorado goodness! I dunno about sturgis Jesse…..without a bike there you’d be strapped to the back of some hairy bikers hog and made grab wieners on strings with your teeth ??????JbParticipantSeptember 29, 2017 at 8:54 pmPost count: 639
Been slaying shit off the to do list before this rig makes it to the jjj compound. Totally rebuilt all the front door hinges with bronze bushings and factory M8 pins, they line up money and are crazy solid with no flex now cause of the 1/4 thick nut plates I sandwiched inside after drilling factory rivets and using m8 counter sunks on door side just like body side. They were really bent but nothing the 100ton press at work couldn’t squash!
Have trimmed nose, longside, doglegs and other shit out of the way waiting for my couple grand in funky green to show up??? had a full day shift on it today, got pass corner all metal finished only removing an inch of precious factory dove blue haha I really should wait to trim that monster long side repair panel until get doglegs, only need 6” of it except for behind one upright. Inner rocker lines up with I beams, bottom of rocker lines up with bottom of inner…..should be good?? Really happy to remove all these “buttholes” I been staring at the last few years…bus had big home made galvanized air scoops over vents…looked like they started wood screws by smashing end of screwdriver with a hammer into the panel and bottom louvers were mangled! Spent some time with a slide hammer and welded all that shit up….way better! Also cut out front heat elbow and mocked up front floor donor (getting drivers outside repair in gerson order)
i am am so jacked on this build! It’s all I can think of lately! HahaVwfoolParticipantSeptember 29, 2017 at 9:36 pmPost count: 312
That is going to be a sweet bus.BBWBParticipantSeptember 29, 2017 at 9:39 pmPost count: 872
I need to do that door repair on my driver door. It’s sagging about a 1/2″. Did you weld up the cracks in the sheet metal?
I'm at the age where "fuck off", "fuck you", and "fuck it" answer most questions.JbParticipantSeptember 29, 2017 at 11:54 pmPost count: 639
Ya I got a copper flat bar same thickness as hinge and slid in, welded them nice and hot ?John JonesKeymasterOctober 1, 2017 at 2:34 pmPost count: 7076
fuckin EH!!!! Lovin it JB!! Nice job on those hinges. 😉JbParticipantOctober 7, 2017 at 12:47 pmPost count: 639
Thanks brotha! I’m just stoked that it’s finally made way front and centre?
Since the original thread is lost, I’d like to point out this here bus was the absolutley start of the tripleJs collaboration! We all knew each other from the scene but really didn’t hang…. until Johnny got the lead on this bus up in the interior of BC. Going off 2 super shitty old school flip phone pics was kinda sketch!
I had just come out of back surgery exactly a week before and Jarod was off work because he squashed is finger like a pancake in the rollers ?….all good we were medicated ? a 4th amigo Andrew was game for some sleepless fun too
We left work, packed truck and trailer, hit ferry off the island and drove straight through the night. Me and Johnny tag teamed driving, while jrod and Andrew guzzled beers and stunk up the cab…. almost ran out of gas in butfuck nowheres, took a 2.5 hr decgetour and still arrived before the beer store opened haha. Picked up Robert (75 year old owner of property RIP ?) and he took us to his property. What a killer place! was pretty picked over but still super cool to explore! Had to drag a Hyundai pony out of way and cut down some little trees to load it up high on adrenalin! Found a squashed ribbed rear fender (used to patch up vert) and a 54 Canadian custom wing nut floor pan in the junk heap that came home too (registered and sold) the bus had no trans so we brought a dolly that bolted to the frame horns….turns out that was a bad idea cause once the 8×8’s moved around under it the horns bent up on a 45 ?? that was an interesting piss break to find that mess haha oh well just one more thing to fix (they were rusty anyway)
Last few shifts have been trimming the scraps, prepping for blasting and new metal to arrive. I tackled my long rocker, I’d have to say probably my best butt weld to date ? no filler needed! Almost too straight for this jalopy bus haha!
I learned long ago the more time u spend prepping and making your splice line up perfect and not have to pull things into line to tack the flatter it’s gonna lay! My air compressor shit the bed last week so I didn’t even quench he spots with air…I think the typical warping comes from improper pre fit more than heat sometimes? Metal just has no place to go, heaves up and sinks down to find room. I also didn’t have the bottom of rocker clamped to inner for welding/metal finishing…I think this also helped?
I don’t have the 3 finger spring bushings for the top hats…this cheap ass didn’t wanna spend 80 euro plus shipping for them so I made a delrin bushing, .025” clearance, gonna work money! Will make a second for the front and then something similar instead of W spring under shifter…..will shift like budda! ?John JonesKeymasterOctober 8, 2017 at 7:39 amPost count: 7076
humm… well that is nice as fuck… 😉 😉 😉 I’ve never tried welding a rocker in like that… I would generally have my B pillar in already also.. Your killing it on this rig…JbParticipantOctober 9, 2017 at 11:47 amPost count: 639
I don’t know if I could justify spending as long as I did if was a paying job….I prob had 8-10 hours into that from trim to finish? More of a challenge to myself than a race?
I would have liked to have the B pillar in first like u say but I’m still waiting to hear if my order has left Columbia yet? it’s only been 3 weeks after told everything was in stock? I spent some time with a straight edge lining it up vertically….should be good I hope!
picking away at little stuff while I wait for the funky green, lower bulkhead needed love as well as bottom of tool box panel
We almost done metal on the 65 sunroof at the shop so bus will get moved soon and then it’s on like donkey Kong!JbParticipantOctober 14, 2017 at 9:20 amPost count: 639
Paul…. I got tracking numbers on your green metal yesterday… 5 big boxes on their way from columbia! Sorry Josh… ? ? I buy and install more green metal than the most ambitious of funky green customers.. ? ? ? year after year, bus after bus, project after project..
hahahah that what u think buddy! 90% of my shit got shipped Tuesday from the land of cocaine….it landed at my buddies place in Washington state Thursday!!!!!! 2 fuckin days! If I had 4K in metal shipped directly to Canada I would get hammered with probably better part of a grand in duty and brokerage from fedex!!! They were out of stock on a a few parts and promised to ship in a week….we will see? I gonna wait till all there before I hop the ferry and go pick up. It’s killing me knowing most of my shit is so close but can’t get my hands on that green yet!???? I have been picking away at a few things in mean time?
