EVwest out of California has tons of stuff available, and wanted to work with us a couple years ago. I assume we want to get a motor with 150hp+ so that we’re not building a dorky slow electric car? They also have tons of battery options…..We need to figure out battery location and mounting before the body or pan gets painted in case we need to weld/build custom mounts and covers. https://www.evwest.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=8&osCsid=pvck5i8hiru8h1cljom4vsfkd3 https://www.evwest.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=4&osCsid=pvck5i8hiru8h1cljom4vsfkd

That is a badass motor! Another option to get up to power is to do two Curtis AC 50 motors and stack them. Michael at EVWest has a kit to combine them with a supercharger belt and that’s what he currently runs in his bus.
Oh, C’mon Glenn quit pretending you know something about this!!!! 😉 😉 🙂
Drivers side rear bumper mount was the main focus last night.
Cut out the junk and burned in a couple of patches.
Mount back home, burned in, welds dressed.
Next up is the rear package tray/fire wall. Lots of rust holes and the fire wall was beat!
New one arrived yesterday.
We will build it if it comes.
The EV motors are hard on VW transaxles. I would recommend using a Tesla motor. Super reliable, tons of power, and very efficient. I helped EVWest design a motor mount to fit them to the frame horns.
Glenn, does it have its own transmission?

Germanaire Drag Day and Social
November 12-13
www.germanaire.comI like the Tesla drive unit. Better use of space.
Will it be fast? Like 1/2 block burn-outs fast?
Wait, What?!?????! Awwww Fuck!!! What’s going on here?!?!??
I am just now seeing this too . Not ever has an electric VW been built by KCW… This could me monumental to to world, to the current generation of car buyers… Or maybe the next who knows. On my trips out west I have see many many FREE charging stations for electric cars… Even the guy at EV West mentioned it to me also… Your getting the best mileage there is…..8-). Getting from here to Cali without spending a cent on transportation cost.. well, THATS a game changer right there.. humm… The tree huggers already like us, if we converted to electric they’ll loose their minds….8-)
A repurposed repurposed repurposed VW….
I can’t believe we are talking about…. yet… I’m a little excited too… Sounds fun!!! And I think Dan might be just the guy who would go for it and use it. 8-). But we gotta make it fast.. 8-). As few chassis mods as we can get away with too…
Call EV West? The are the best I know in the game and I am sure they would want to work with us… Most interesting thing we have talked about in awhile…8-). 😎
Glenn, does it have its own transmission?
Yes the Tesla motors have their own reduction gearbox. The “baby” Tesla motor kit that I posted the link to puts out around 200-300hp. I have heard rumors that the larger 400-500 hp motor would fit but probably would need modifications
Here’s Michael’s BMW with the larger Tesla motor
I have for years had a dream of building an electric powered, chopped, Karmann Ghia drag car. Kind of stopped dead in the water by lack of funds, knowledge, and physical dexterity. Still a fun dream though.
Think the “65 might see some track time ?
Finished dissecting the remaining bits where the package tray/firewall was welded in on Thur last week.
Also finished inner structure repairs to rear apron, cracks and a couple small patches.
Couple drivers side heater channel/rocker repairs handled Friday night. Side and bottom area.
End of channel front of rear wheel well area, two layers deep.
Inner section done.
Outer section to close it up.
Dan called us out on the late model package tray/firewall we ordered. He asked to find a correct donor, man of principal!
Found one in the car Dan used for the ragtop section we grafted into his oval window.
Removed from donor car and bits dissected yesterday.
Just finished sand blasting donor section until I ran out of sand. Not completely cleaned up but good enough for install. Will finish blasting when metal repairs on the shell are completed.
We will build it if it comes.
Fix what is broke………..Next Job????!!!!!! 😀
Fabed patch panels last night for the lower front corner areas on both pass and drivers side of the parcel tray where it had some rust.
Patched up and ready to be welded back in.
We will build it if it comes.
You da Man Pat! Beautiful work.
I'm at the age where "fuck off", "fuck you", and "fuck it" answer most questions.
Pat is it just me or have your metalworking/fabrication skillz just gone WILD lately?
Punk kid
Work of art!! Great job!
