New project underway. Started disassembly on Tuesday.
Every nut and bolt on the lower half of this bus is suuuuper happy where it’s at. Lots of heat and a few broken bolts and all the removables are off.
Riley started dissecting the passenger dog leg on day one.
We put her up on the lift yesterday, removed what we could from the bottom side. No dolly right now, she’ll be on wheels for a bit.
Back over to the dirty shop yesterday afternoon. Choppin out the junk bits.
We will build it if it comes.
This bus is certainly in need of some KCW dirty shop love… Pat and Riley are metal work machines 🤙🏼😎
Fun Size👌🏻
Hell yeah!!!! What a nice bus!!!! Love the color…

Very cool. Moving along quick.

Possibly going to do a dormobile conversion on this bus.
The plan is to do all the rust repairs and weld in belly pans for now.
I can smell all that nut and bolt extraction from here! Love an OG velvet green bus
This is the most I’ve seen of this bus since I purchased it and had it sent to KCW! Looks like some solid bones except for the typical rusted out areas of these old buses. This bus is an original “Alabama Camper” bus purchased through the Montgomery Ward Catalog back in the 60’s. Could you even imagine what that was like? I’m not an expert, but I can say that many American camper companies popped up when it was apparent VW couldn’t keep up with their Westfalia orders and Americans were looking for alternatives. From my research, Alabama Camper interiors are very similar to EZ Camper, however, if any of you out there know more about “Alabama Campers” I’d sure like to hear from you.
Woo!!! What’s up BrendAn? Did I spell that right?
I’ve been through Alabama but I have no knowledge of “Alabama Campers”.
Where you located?
We will build it if it comes.
Hi Pat,
I live in San Jose, CA. Place of the famous Golden Gate VW Vintage Meet and Red Barn swap meet VW weekend we have every April! If you are a Vintage enthusiast, this is a weekend you need to come to the Bay Area. I remember you guys along time ago, I sold an oval ragtop to a Hawaiian and he wanted me to ship it to KCW! Ever since then, I’ve heard about KCW from the community and the good work you’ve done over the years. Then my good friend Craig Letcher told me about Panama Red and I had to see for myself! Craig and I go way back, back to 1987 when we started the Bus Krauts of Nor. Cal! Craig was one of my first members to join our pre’67 VW bus club.
Ha! Craig! How is Panama Red coming along?

Brendan.. It sounds like you sold, I think his name was brandon?? that ragtop we did and painted black and delivered to the Vegas show a BUNCH of years ago??
Glad to have you on here!!! The forums seem to be the easiest way to stay in the know of your project!! and if you have a question post it up!!! 😎

Super pumped on this build. Velvet Green is one of my favorite colors on a bus. Also you have a very uncommon camper.
Reach out to Brandon Oaks who is Oakman on TheSamba and IG. He had a really nice original paint Alabama Camper that he sold. The only other Alabama Camper I know of is owned by a gentleman who’s name is Chaz who puts on Buses by the Beaches with his friend Charlie Link. I don’t know Chaz’s Samba handle but you can reach out to him via IG Buses by the Beach. Hope this helps you.
We removed lots of rusty metal today.
We will build it if it comes.
HOLY MOLY DID THEY!!! Great day!!! That’s how you get it done!!! 😎 😎
