I’m excited for this trip. I’m planning on trying to keep it under control since I finally got my trans just before the last Moab trip that I have waited on for a year since the 2021 spring Moab trip when I broke it. We missed out on a lot of road trips last summer. So far it’s been awesome having my bus back to feeling reliable.

gonna miss ya jj and corp but I also think you’re gonna have a hard time not enjoying yourselves in Hawaii. Feel like we really didn’t get much time in Moab to catch up…. Next trip😎

My bus likes 65 a lot more than 85! Going to be a perfect weekend for a hot spring soak and hanging out in the desert. Scared of spring temps Franz?;) haha

Lots of wind on the way out. Brought in the cold front.

We camped just north of Eureka. Audrey went straight to the camp spot from Junction.

when we were about to pull into the campsite I spotted Derek thumbing on the side of the dirt road hahaha. He had tried to go up a different road and got a flat. Hahaha he was worried his spare behind his front seat didn’t have air. So we grabbed my spare off the rack and got him the 1/2 mile to camp. There we plugged his tire and aired it up. The plug held all trip and he aired his spare up the next day when we passed through delta.

Misty and Matt in the syncro pulled in just after dark and Aaron in the white kombi showed up at 3 am he said. He got off work at midnight.

Got packed up and headed out at 9am. 676D6410-A975-4B30-A408-C59183110418We got turned around by a couple no trespassing signs and ended up heading more east than I wanted to get around the mountain to eureka. But it allowed for some fun small 2 track driving and we drove through the tintic railroad tunnel. Then onto Delta for gas. CD10BE11-A3AE-45E3-B052-9EF831F2E74DAired down a few miles outside of Delta and got on the old dirt highway 50/6. Headed straight west to the West Desert sink hole! Gotta be 100+ feet deep. You can’t see it until you get right next to it. So cool. 3BF68002-279D-4F6E-B011-F08BECFDD974623B1D4A-2324-4F75-ACF8-5471CF8F8B97B70B58F2-4600-424A-B633-ED6DAD6C6A28Then we headed up a steep technical section to Amasa Valley. A vanagon broke a CV on this section last time we were up there a few years ago. But everyone did great this time. Old mining structures and a few cabins in the woods. Beautiful pocket of aspens and a crazy change in the rock up there. Some small snow flurries reminded me how high up we were. Around 8k feet. 14FA1639-82A4-4829-97D2-EA2D4F3316DA4A3C5F77-223C-4EA6-BBA1-ED406CE0D3ECBecause of the wind and the cooler temps I decided to head into the canyons instead of trying to camp out on the hard pan. We went and camped in Death Canyon. So much cool limestone up there. I usually see wild horses in this canyon, but no luck this time.  We hiked around and explored some small caves and watched Django chase birds for hours haha

Super beautiful in death canyon.CE11068B-F649-4AE9-9858-707BA53B532CI somehow got a 6 inch nail in my tire! Haha felt squirly for like 30 sec and then I heard it hitting my bus. Going to bring two spares next time I’m this far out 🫠6913275D-1A34-459C-80B9-334FE94FF7F03E7525F7-77E7-482B-B0CE-F4E4DCE88AE7checked out the hermit cabin again this trip. Old man lived in a cabin in marjum canyon that he built into a cave in the cliff. He lived there after WW1 and cleared the old highway 50 for the government until they paved hwy 50 in 1954. E55CE1B5-1D8F-4B15-908D-0C3C59B2C2B2We drove out to the ibex hardpan and saw a cool plane! Nice guy that flew in from Fillmore. Experimental home built plane. Powered by a Subaru. He said  there was a fly in last week and there was 30+ planes on the hard pan. That would’ve been cool to see! He buzzed us 2 times after taking off hahaha we drove more south and had fun going 4th gear flat out on the nice and smooth hard pan! 35DA53E6-5B87-42AB-BA16-C8B827960E9DThe mail! Hahaha fucker.8DE57597-0DD4-4C63-BC48-838A285C00E51113642C-60DC-4FC9-898E-2902EBB64528we then drove over to crystal peak! So crazy! I’ve never been out here. All normal dark grey and brown desert mountains and then this white peak just shoots up out of nowhere! Pretty cool to hike around for a bit.B3958C35-37D5-48CA-89FA-CFCBD51338BBthen we drove back north and camped in this cool little pocket of trees under fossil mountain. Only trees around for miles and it’s nice and sandy everywhere. Love this camp spot. We all hiked around and found a ton of fossils. They’re laying around everywhere! So fun.

Sunday we were all pretty low on gas… I was thinking we could make it all the way to baker hot springs the 80 miles on dirt roads. But after some math in my head I think we would’ve all made it to Baker and then wouldn’t have been able to make it back to Delta or Eureka to fill up haha. I’ll going to bring 25 gallons total next trip… 28F28353-95B2-484A-9707-9FD3297051BF8501FB5B-2797-4371-9D2A-8C0DEC1EDF605C0464BF-1D0F-4427-8453-88A8580B4012airing back up before hitting hwy 50 back to Delta.3B81E59A-53FF-4CA6-827B-B78EA213E6D8CEC2C1F2-16A9-4132-A810-0E1BA64F1BF35C6710A3-A070-4E46-A389-764B1D6551B6everyone dusty and saying goodbye in Delta. Most people went home. But Audrey and emilee and I headed to Baker to clean off the dust. ACB8823B-FED5-468E-B423-29DE5F6C1FE3Train by the power station out by baker hot springs. 6F142BE5-7902-464E-B7FA-67BD6F23765AAlways good to stop at Baker!!! Thanks for coming out Audrey!

it was a great trip. I love the desolate beauty of the West Desert! We only had a couple flats. Everything else went smooth. Other than me not really knowing where we were half the time. But that is all part of the fun!

more spares and more gas next time.

happy everyone came out. It was a fun smaller group. Made the trip a lot easier. Easier to keep everyone together and not as many stops.
