Patient is on the table. Franz was rounding up engine tin for this yesterday.
Sorry for the delayed post. Update of last weeks progress.
I noticed link pins were missing grease seals. Pulled spindles, checked shims for correct camber, reinstalled and greased.
Front and rear brakes together. Axle boot clamps installed.
Tested and assembled horn.
Bulbs in. Semaphores and headlights in.
Front wheel bearings and drums packed, new seals in.
Starter, bowden tubes, clutch and throttle cables in and lubed.
Ebrake handle was missing the catch pawl. Harvested one from the parts stash. Franz tigged it in. We’re waiting on ebrake cables to arrive for install
We will build it if it comes.FranzKeymasterOctober 19, 2019 at 4:49 pmPost count: 2976
The heart of the engine. vj4br8 55-57 bus distributor…same as a 019. We’re going for a vintage look 1914cc doghouse w/heat. Concept 1 fan shroud with velocity ring and type IV cooler.
Epoxy sealer on the housing and clamp. OG screws.
Original cylinder tins always fit the best.John JonesKeymasterOctober 21, 2019 at 8:24 amPost count: 5866

Yeah speaking of this truck, I got back on the engine today. Cole is a Porsche guy or something now.
I installed a fancy fuel pump, and modified a 6volt backing plate for 12 volt. Going for vintage look.RustabusParticipantNovember 6, 2019 at 9:49 pmPost count: 1701

Original heater boxes with big elements always work the best. Cleaned the insides, straitened dents, welded flanges, and modified the outlets to snake around the Wolfsburg (tube type) transaxle cradle.FranzKeymasterNovember 11, 2019 at 8:24 pmPost count: 2976

Looking so good! Loving the touches Franz. Franz knows how to do it right. I cant wait to throw some motorcycles in the back of this thing and rip out to the desert!FranzKeymasterNovember 19, 2019 at 8:03 amPost count: 2976
Stacking the engine. I got some zinc plated parts back from the plating shop. Old Bosch logo coil bracket, on a brand new Bosch blue coil. VW logos on the trimmed pulley and cylinder tins.
I tried buffing some dirt out of the fan shroud and went a little too far. Cut into the sealer, so I sanded and repainted last night. Doh!
Fit heater boxes to the wolfsburg tube cradle and welded the bends.ColeBParticipantNovember 19, 2019 at 9:08 amPost count: 1332
That’s a nice coil bracket! It’s always good to see the vw logo too. No matter how small.
