It was cool to have Omar drop in. He’s had this oval for years, gifted from his uncle who even painted it for him!!
Trans was a dirty pig. Scraped and chiseled 50 years of gunk off. Wrapped up and ready for pickup this morning.
Franz ran the torch to heat up the center section of the torsion housing, I made sure the fire didn’t get out of control.
Most stuck torsions we’ve ever had to remove! Lots of prying and hammering. I think Zack snapped a couple action shots. End result, we win!!!! Look at that surface rust!
Clutch cable tube felt like it was flexing a lot when I pulled the old cable out. Opened up the tunnel, the front mount had broken loose.
Opened up the middle to add support so the clutch tube cant flex and brake again. Found this big old pile of greasy goodness that had to be cleaned out first.
Support bracket bent up, weld prepped, ready to burn in this morning. Back to it.
We will build it if it comes.
Here’s those pictures from Zack yesterday 👍🏻Awesome Omar stopped by! I bet he’s glad KCW is the one dealing with torches on his oval – these guys always make that kinda shit look like no big deal 😎👍🏻
Gotta tear it down and get the very innards cleaned up and tidy before getting to the assembly process…
Omar…. Moab this weekend. You should stop by.
Thank you so much for the invitation, but I have too much going on this weekend. The progress is amazing! I know I finally made the right decision to leave it with you guys, you’re finding things that I wouldn’t have even known to look for that could have been serious issues. Have a fun weekend!
Here’s a picture of 19-year-old me with the blue ’56 in 1996. It was fresh off the boat from Lebanon back then. The car was a gift from my uncle. When he told me over the phone that he got VW-obsessed-me a “buggie” I didn’t believe him. He asked me what color I wanted it pained. Not believing him I said “paint it whatever color you want!” His reply was “ok, I’ll paint it purple.” Just in case he was telling me the truth, I said “ok, anything but purple.” That summer when we went to Lebanon to visit family, he took me to show me the surprise…sitting in an empty lot was this.
Finished Thursday putting the tunnel back together after reinforcing the clutch tube.
Drivers side rear bumper mount had 2 broken bolts, pass side had 1. Was able to get them all out.
We will build it if it comes.
Torsion bars required more heat and some air hammering to get them out of the spring plates.
Installing grommets where needed.
Skipped working Friday to get ready for Moab. Tore down pedal assembly this morning.
Parts are stacking up for a blast session.
We will build it if it comes.
Pedal assy was in great shape overall. Removed to worn bushings, blasted and painted the main pivot. Ready to assemble.
Started on front end work. Covered in grime but solid overall.
Scraped grime and stripped it down to the torsion arms.
Pressed spindles apart for new king and links.
Drivers front brake backing plate had a broken adjuster tab. Sourced a replacement from the pile outback.
Omar decided he wanted his wheels painted. More parts ready for blasting.
We will build it if it comes.
Gonna be clean clean clean when she goes home next time… 😎 and proper.. 😎
Finished cleaning parts and rounding up all the parts that need blasted for paint.
Sorted through all of your parts. Getting a Wolfsburg West order ready this morning.
We will build it if it comes.
I just placed an order with Wolfsburg West for carpet, bumpers, running boards and a bunch of other parts. They had most everything in stock.
Pat and I are going to keep the momentum going.
Found this in my nightstand…I’ll bring it by tomorrow!
Pat’s here cranking away on some parts…. I got up just after 5am… and Pat was already here… Looks like a shiney black paint session may be coming up today..
Getting ready for paint!
I was able to get the majority of your parts blasted before running out of sand yesterday.
3 1/4 more wheels to go.
Fabed caps for the torsion bars to cover holes drilled for removal.
Hung and masked parts this morning. Epoxy sealed. Shiny black paint coming up.
We will build it if it comes.
