That thing looked so nice coming in. Now I see it’s a real lowlight. I think they made those things out of pre-rust. wtfJohn JonesKeymasterAugust 20, 2018 at 7:41 amPost count: 6731
Headlight repair is well underway!!! I quickly figured out that Low light’s have a slightly larger bucket.. larger diameter. The new bucket will slip right into the original.. and the repair pieces aren’t the right shape around the hole… so… I had to FIX EVERYTHING 😎 I’m about there… I had to re-ring the bucket… before I can put it in…. But now, everything will be OG!!! 😎 Pics later!!!!! I should finish it up today..
OH… Juan… You notice you are missing the bulb holders for your bullets????? weird????JWDIIParticipantAugust 20, 2018 at 10:12 amPost count: 395
Good work as always JJ! Nice freaking car and like watching it come back to life.Juan 59 DDWTParticipantAugust 20, 2018 at 10:35 amPost count: 297
John, I sent an email about the bulb holder,.. enjoy the day!John JonesKeymasterAugust 20, 2018 at 2:42 pmPost count: 6731
well I learned over the weekend that low lights have larger headlight buckets than later ghia’s… and today I learned that 58.5 and 59 ghia’s have the same front turn signals as up to 64.5 ghia… 😎 I guess we are fine… thanks for looking that up for me… ALL the low lights I have built were 58 and earlier I guess…
anyway.. I didn’t take any during pics of this repair. it was a pain in the ass.. I had to weld all those cracks up first in the hole on the fender.. then bend up a lip to replace the one on the headlight bucket. grind all that shit, make it fit, nicely, which meant lots more hammer work.. but finally, it is in and repaired, with some blasting and tool mark remover… it will look perfect…. 😎
Repaired Original Metal… 😎RustabusParticipantAugust 20, 2018 at 8:36 pmPost count: 1969
And I thought that the build was gonna have to get scrapped!!! 😉 😉 🙂 Nice Work!!!!!!!!Juan 59 DDWTParticipantAugust 20, 2018 at 9:02 pmPost count: 297
Good Job John, I know it was a difficult area to fix 👍👏👏👏John JonesKeymasterAugust 21, 2018 at 2:54 pmPost count: 6731
it was the usual… fix the rips, add metal where it was missing, grind, dress, repeat… both pieces, fix em both, then marry em together!!! Thanks..
I had to work on a parkway buff job this morning.. but back on it this after noon.. 😎 working on this rear lower fender repair area…. I’ll have that done soon and move onto the next bad area.. 😎 eventually we run out of bad area’s….omr_007ParticipantAugust 21, 2018 at 8:19 pmPost count: 11
Man, these are some desirable shit. Thanks for dropping your ‘no more lowlight/type 3 ghia’ rules Jones. Stoked to see another Juan project too.John JonesKeymasterAugust 22, 2018 at 7:43 amPost count: 6731
I got that side done and starting tearing into the drivers side yesterday eve… I’ll continue on today!!!!! 😎
I think these Low Lights are just barely coming around the corner of full mature market Value!!!!!!!!!! 😎John JonesKeymasterAugust 22, 2018 at 5:26 pmPost count: 6731
some pics from today… Inner and outer repair to rear fender and dissected out all of the rust on the front of the wheel well and repaired some inner structure and pin holes etc.. and a bunch of pics of the headlights… These are two OG crappy buckets from out back, with 4mm screws holding them in as stock… Thats without the seal and without a chrome bezel, which goes over all of it.. I couldn’t find one of those to try… but not worried about that…. Everything looks just as it should.. 😎volksaddictParticipantAugust 22, 2018 at 7:52 pmPost count: 628
Wish Gerson made lowlight panels.Juan 59 DDWTParticipantAugust 22, 2018 at 9:19 pmPost count: 297

Thanks Juan. another spot I fixed yesterday… Gonna do my Thursday paper work and be back on it… 😎 everything is looking and going great….!John JonesKeymasterAugust 24, 2018 at 8:27 amPost count: 6731
I got that area done yesterday… moving to the front fender area now!!!!! 😎 Hoping next week to have this shell rust repaired and dusted back off… as you can see in some pics… it got sprinkled on one morning… 😎 Doesn’ really matter… they always need dusted off again, in the new metal area’s, hand prints, anything… I like dusting them off one more time before body work… what does one do that doesn’t have a blast booth right there at the shop…? 😎
Pics later Juan!John JonesKeymasterAugust 24, 2018 at 9:29 amPost count: 6731
where I was and where I am… 😎 You see the difference in low light and later front end here…Juan 59 DDWTParticipantAugust 24, 2018 at 10:35 amPost count: 297
John, here just trying to understand what it takes to work on this KG because of your back pain. All I can say is I value your effort and it’s a privilege to see the results. Enjoy your passion, my Amigo, the results are extraordinary.John JonesKeymasterAugust 24, 2018 at 10:35 amPost count: 6731
it got ugly fast!! But I have cut out all the flimsy rusty metal and missing metal…. and about to start the rebuild. I’m gonna try and take a few more pics today…. 😎JWDIIParticipantAugust 24, 2018 at 10:42 amPost count: 395
I always heard Ghias were prone to rust! I guess they were correct! Am I right in thinking that the flat and low areas in the design allow water to sit and do its nasty thing?
Anyways, Great work JJ! This car will feel great when your done!
