Ah come on Rusty.. You got that shit…. 😎
We did a lap today on the world famous trail….. Got to take Andy out this time!!! We were able to get him a dirt bike to ride…. 😎 Good times, never disappoints… 😎
Proud and Stubborn 👍🏻
We had a good time this morning…and yes they drive their bajas crazy!! I was on robs crf450, it was hella fun. Next time I want my own gear but I can’t complain. Thanks rob and KCW.
I was thinking about the backroads race I mentioned earlier. I think I have come up with a route. The goal is to keep the trails mild enough that a full fendered beetle could make it. The race would be open to any street legal vehicle with classic VW suspension.
-Start in Grand Junction/ Whitewater at hwy141, Tabeguache trail entrance.
Tabeguache trail to cactus park and further, eventually reconnecting to hwy141 in Gateway for a check point. Depending how we plan it, we could stay at the resort in Gateway overnight. They have a huge car museum and a trophy truck training/rental course there. Thinking it would be better to stay at a hotel so that were not trying to drag food and camping gear along. Plus, it would be fun to have a formal dinner type thing. Get to the resort. Get clean, relax, eat, and fix cars.
The next morning we leave Gateway in the order of arrival, headed towards Moab via the rimrocker trail I have not been on this trail so I don’t know how good/bad it is. I’m under the impression that its not terrible. Set up a mid way check point or something.
The race finishes in Moab with awards and food. That will make it easier for the Utah guys to get home maybe? Or we can race back to GJ. I know another good backroad that drops into Grand Junction from Glade Park.
That sounds like two full days. I’d like to get a group and some $ together so that we can plan/rent a hotel food and t-shirts. Say like a $200 entry fee? If there are any left-over funds we can divide it between 1st and 2nd place finishers.
Here is a map of the rimrocker trail. We would connect @ hanging flume hwy 141 (which incidentally I believe is one of the Forrest Fenn Treasure clues).
oh shit. do I have to get a baja now ? that looks fuuuuuunnnn !!
Maybe I can ride with Jeff ?
Looks like a great reason to buy a late model bug, crank up the suspension, buy bigger tires and go for it.
When would this take place?

Franz,,, You might be on to something that would be an incredible hit!!!!!!! Could you imagine getting VW guys from all the country and or world to come out and race with us….. 😎

Thats what I’m saying! Kind of like the old gumball 3000 rallies.
Spend a little money for entry, but get full support, planning, and a prize to race for.
I want to do the race in stages. Keeping time for each competitor, then adding all the stage times together for the final result. Like 6-8 stages.
This will make it more casual, we’ll have time to repair cars, bs, enjoy the drive and scenery along the way.
Mid October or late November 2019? A time of year tourism is minimal and trails are dry.
So awesome. Our club is not even a year old and already getting global press. Big plans for the trailblazer’s in 2019. We’re going to organize an over-night Colorado backroads/trail race…. Unsanctioned of course. Who wants in? Feel like making another America trip Mark?
maybe I could Marshall or something…I’m sure no one wants to hand me their keys 😭🤪
I’m in if you allow subi power??
Yep, Subaru, Covair, Mazda and electric swaps welcome too. 🙂 I don’t want to exclude anyone. VW link pin or ball joint based (aftermarket allowed) front suspension is the only requirement. Bug, bus, buggy, ghia, type 3, or rail…I don’t care. We’ll be driving on some public roads, so registration and insurance is a good idea….but if you want to roll the dice, I won’t hold it against you.
