Started on a local assembly job today. More work then the average PWP so it gets a thread.
Owner has worked on assembly over the last couple? years, now he’s unable to find time to make progress.
Needed a bath before going into the clean shop.
We will build it if it comes.
More from yesterday. Pulled the motor to replace the disintegrating mounts.
Pulled the trans also. Going to convert the front mount to a later style. The bus adapter mount pushes the engine back making a tight fit for the later motor even tighter.
Started cleaning off years of gunk from the leaky trans.
Found a few items on the engine that need attention, bunch on the trans. Back to cleaning now.
We will build it if it comes.
Pulled e-brake and pedal assemblies yesterday. All of the cables were worn or broken except for the throttle.
Didn’t smell great down there.
Pulled the broken rear shocks off and started removing torsion bars to replace bushings. Outers were junk and the pass spring plate retainer is cracked.
The inners bushings are so worn I can pull the spring plate off the stop by hand. The spring plates and torsions are very happy where they been the last 65 years.
Pulled fenders, drilled holes to air hammer on the torsion bars, still a no go. May have to get some heat involved.
Finished cleaning the frame horn area and chopped the front trans mount off. Fresh rattle can paint job this morning.
Stripped the trans down to its center section this morning. All parts removed are in great shape. Going to clean it up and send it off for a rebuild.
We will build it if it comes.
We make it look easy… I honestly don’t think there is a more capable shop for doing any and all VW work… I know maybe we are grumpy to talk to on the phone…. but if you can break through that barrier… it’s all good stuff….
You guys sure do. I wish y’all weren’t $2,000 in car shipping charges (each way) away.
