I found this link recently.  It gives a lot of detailed info on the Thing, Safari and other configurations.  Best info for me was the gear ratios on the Safaris, which were built and sold before, during, and after the 73-74 US Things, but not sold in the USA.  Safaris had reduction boxes like an earlier bus.  Per this article, in 1970 the reduction box ratios were 1.39, after that they were 1.26.  I watch several Safari and Hormiga facebook pages from Mexico.  I see Safaris advertised often; usually running $5,000 to 10,000 US.  I see Hormigas for sale too.

So friggin’ ugly I want one !  However it would seem that these actually are “rare”  unlike so many things posted for sale that carry that questionable label.

Jamie Orr in PA had one at one time. I have seen 2-3 more in the US over the past decade.

I like to tell people 23Window buses are not rare, they are desirable.

    That is much more accurate.

There was a Hormiga for sale in Mesquite, Nevada not too long ago.  I don’t recall the price but it was less than $15K.  Here’s a link to a Hormiga Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/groups/835509476538116
