That was quite the back step we took on this…. We went from done to  DONE…8-)     Greg was cool about it, hooked us up on another engine..  To be honest… it would be nice to have some spare parts around…  Mechanical things break eventually… and there are NO parts in the US for these…  So now. there will be a core to get some parts from when the time comes… 😎     What a bummer weekend for Franz…  But he is pulling through and making it all better….

One thing my old friend George Scoyne taught me… “It’s only a big deal if you make it a big deal”   😎 😎  Wise words to live by…  I miss that old man!

it was a serious ball kicker….   Who’s to shoulder the burden of this incident???   I don’t think it was any one’s fault… Seems like a gremlin was in that motor…. I hope the next one is full of good mojo!!! 😎   I felt sick on Saturday….  but it seems we have sorted this issue and it will be handled shortly…. Actualy not much of set back really….. 😎

I was thinking about it. I love a good KCW weekend. Was messaging with Franz. Would be cool to come get a bit of a run through on this motor. Just in case I am ever stranded I can at least call you JJ and tell you what Im looking at 😉😂 get your Subaru insight and expertise😏  Maybe also start to think about a tool/part kit that will always stay in the Vanagon. I have my road toolkit for air-cooled stuff, but Im guessing it’ll be different for the vanagon. And since I won’t be the only one driving the vanagon and won’t always be in it with whoever is driving it would be nice to have tools in there for whoever is driving it so I can try to help if they are ever roadside. I don’t know…. Im just excited to adventure in this vanagon again. It was already super fun and capable offload so Im excited to test it out now!

I got the engine all stripped down. We delete a bunch of egr stuff to make it a much simpler unit. You can see the high pressure pump here. It feeds the fuel rail, that feeds the injectors. Similar operation to gasoline fuel injection minus the high pressure system(20,000 psi). It lools like there are a ton of lines, but it mostly return flow leakage from the injectors(keeps them cooled).
