It seems like Subaru stopped producing and supporting the ee20 engine.

It doesn’t make much sense to a potential Subaru buyer to pay for an optional engine that has troublesome design flaws.

We were running a proprietary stand-alone ecu that didn’t have the computerized glow plug circuit or intake air heater. Plus, I’m hearing the ee20 engine has a tendency to blow head gaskets due high combustion pressures.

The parts for this engine are not available world-wide…and supplies are already drying-up.

Surely one of the VW PD TDI engines would make a lot more sense – bulletproof and bucketfuls of torque, esp when remapped – my old PD130 Golf was an awesome vehicle – 80k in 4 years and never missed a beat, plus 53mpg+

Ya, very hard decision… KB and I are in love with the ee20. But with the issues we have had and the basically 0 parts ANYWHERE in the world it’s hard to continue with the ee20. KB is bummed, but he just wants to be able to use the ultimate vanagon. I think this will be better in the long run. Just a really hard way to learn

Well…. I got home on Friday and Emilee wanted to go camping… so we left 2 hours later. Haha I was tired from all the driving and the week of work at KCW. But glad we got out! Beautiful weekend. I haven’t driven this thing with the new motor. So KB said to take it and test it out! Ran great. Fun time. Even met up with Seth and Steph again. 4A27E180-3DC0-4A30-A354-B424A2B3B33B0E82943F-5828-4DC1-A7E3-D4401777922B770BE313-2D4D-47C9-8962-44A7CF0B0F29BB8F03D6-C51C-493A-9125-03E9AD2CBA455E8447C6-7C36-40A3-A0E4-198D373E945C9A5A55B4-6FCC-4719-B8B9-E3B5A0C9B5CEB1BFEE62-3813-4F7E-B32D-F4EF654C3E9A90C73484-5A14-488F-ACE1-2A4B101842CEB5126E8C-FD33-4963-AE16-56FFD6CE1330EE5F6D87-D54D-4D30-AB5A-DD1DD8C49352AC7041CA-CADE-4400-A516-FAD391A2D611Look close. Middle and rear! This thing feels unstoppable! And the diesel allows you to just slowly crawl at a lower rpm and it still pulls!

Emilee wanted to see some of the stuff we did on the Utah 300 trip last year. Found cool new stuff too! Lots of dirt roads to explore!
