    Yep, one way clutch.

So this EE20 alternator is very hard to find. Used condition on ebay in bulgaria and U.K. Looking at pictures it seems as maybe a 2014-2016 forester uses a similar mounting patteren.

I talked with Brian at small car today, his advise was to wire so that its charging, and disable the light. Its a work around.

    I can do that with 12volts to white/red & black/yellow I get 14.3volts -good charging.

If I only energize the black/yellow I get 15.4 volts. That tells me its “full field” and not good.

Most people are telling me white/red goes to full time Battery+ 12v.
That leaves the black/yellow that I should run to switched ignition power source 12v.

If I have this hooked up incorrectly I will notice the battery going dead? Sound correct Andy?

you Sound hot on the trail franz.

I’m not sure I’d disable the dummy light, kinda like putting a picture over a check engine light or turning up the radio, not a real fix.

Maybe add another wire into the system so it’s getting 12v off another wire to that dummy light? I’ve heard of stereo guys adding diods in line that increase power..no experience on it myself. Maybe??

we can play with it for a few hours one day.

Guess what your question was, yes if it’s hooked up wrong the alternator “excite field” is on and the car is off, that’s what kills the battery.

    Constant is just power

switched is for the “excite field” so when you turn the key on now the alternator is ready to charge.

I know nothing you already don’t know, just saying what I’m thinking.

The 3rd wire Black/red I can get 6 volts out of when hooked up as described. I don’t think a diode is going to help. I’d have to run a relay or something goofy.

The charging light can be hooked to switched ignition to keep it from coming on….but its not reading if the alternator is chargning/spinning.

You’d find out the alternator went bad after the batteries drained.

The other secenario, if the serpetine belt broke/came off, you would feel the loss of power steering.

Nope, no road trip on Thursday.

The engine had a major failure. I have it all taken apart. The rockers broke/fell out of the head. I’m not even sure what happened. I was starting it up friday, it sounded funny and didn’t seem like it wanted to start. I tried again, and got it to fire with a terrible clang clang sound.

All I can come up with is that the engine hit TDC and instead of continuing to turn the correct rotation, it kicked backwards, took the slack out of the hydraulic cam chain tensioners (remember it was cold start, low RPM, no oil pressure) and allowed the pistons to hit the valves turning backwards not in correct timing. More than likely bent valves in the heads.

Brand new engine, less than a hour of run time. I’m going to start trying to figure out how to rectify this situation.

Yeah, I was done with this project. About to do a major detail job to prepare it to go home. Really took the wind out of my sails. Its been a crappy weekend. All I can do is keep moving forward.

Just talked to KB. Tell Greg to expedite that motor! Ha  Thanks for all the work that’s gone into this thing. Excited to see it done. Maybe this time around I can plan some time to come help this thing go in? So I am not completely lost if anything ever goes wrong. Depends when Greg actually gets the motor sent

Greg was cool this morning. He gave us a smoking deal on another engine. He said he could ship tomorrow.

I just took a check down to fedex overnight.
