I’ve seen that car Alykat! Pretty gnarly… I don’t think we’re going to build a ferrari beating scab plus he hinted that that build cost them $125,000 not including the cost of the car 😳

Super excited that JJ and KCW are on board! We’re still working on the numbers… this being an “entrepreneur” project they make us write out and prove every decision that we are making numerically and it slows down the process significantly, but I guess that’s what makes us engineers 🤓. I really like the idea of a “fully reversible” conversion that requires as little modification to the bus as possible and includes distributing the weight evenly with the original load points so as to not overly stress the original suspension setup

I had heard of what Kevin Sharpe was working on but I hadn’t seen that yet. Thanks for the good resource!

Has EV West done any other conversions utilizing Tesla drive units?

Yeah they recently designed a motor mount for a Porsche 911 with the 400 V performance Tesla motor

I vote trip RGB’d stock height shop truck.

Then again slammed with all that batt. weight down low would be a fun one to go canyon ripping in…

We will build it if it comes.

Does anyone have the dimensions on the engine bay for a bus like this? Going to start to modeling how we’re going to fit the motor…

You want some measurements and pics??? 😎

That would be huge! We went up to EVWest today to try to dimension their 65 single cab engine bay with their Faro 3D scanning arm but they were busy getting ready for SEMA so we still need those measurements.

We’ve been in contact with Volksagen North America’s Electric Research Laboratory up in Silicon Valley about a potential partnership and they seemed interested in our project. We sent them a list of items today that we’re going to need and they are going to get back to us on how exactly they can help.

Using the Tesla motor will entail using the Tesla transmission because they are packaged as a unit. This means that we will have to use an IRS suspension to adapt the axles. Which kit would you guys recommend?

Also Will told me today he got the original title from the previous owner and it’s a 57… I guess we have to change this thread’s title
