Formally introducing my new daily driver and back-burner project, a 1989 Syncro Doka Jagdwagen. This thing is a beast! Only a handful known in the world; from my research estimates are between 12 and 20 ever made and 2-4 known in the western hemisphere. Jagdwagen roughly translates to “hunt-car”, and was basically a result of checking all the right boxes when you ordered a syncro doka and effectively doubled the price of a standard doka. Factory roll cage, winch, gun rack, jerry can locker, individual rear seats and more.

This specific one has some really cool history too. It was originally titled and corporately owned by Volkswagen for the first 5 years as a promotional/display vehicle, meaning that this one is optioned with just about every “Jagdwagen” accessory. I’ll detail all these later when I can get good photos of them all.

The Jagd is powered by a VW TDI that makes this a much more reasonable daily driver for me and the syncro system with the front and rear locking diffs make it a useable rig for me year round! Hopefully I’ll be able to make more ski/camping/ and KCW trips! My plans for it are up in the air right now. Obviously I’m not doing anything major to it until I finish up my SO42, but will definitely be making little tweaks and further rust prevention when I can.

Pretty sweet! I’m a bit jelly.

I'm at the age where "fuck off", "fuck you", and "fuck it" answer most questions.

All you need now is to drop an easy plug and play subaru diesel motor into it! Its so easy and I bet Pat and Franz would love to help  😉  😉  😆  haha! Looks awesome man! We all have to rally our vanagons together. Christmas color gang style

Haha thanks guys, I’m pretty stoked on it, and know how lucky I am to have the opportunity to own it. The oval had to give up its place in my collection, but its going to be pampered like it deserves now. It was hard to part with such an awesome car, but at the end of the day I don’t have the resources to be its custodian and drive it regularly like I needed to. This meets my needs right now of having something unique and useable!

I was just thinking we needed to do a diesel syncro campout when the ultimate vanagon is finished! I love watching people’s faces as they try to figure out what this thing is as it rolls coal past them. ?

Went outside this morning to take some photos of the accessories, and didn’t know that it was supposed to snow…

I should have known though, given the weather up in Estes Park yesterday

Got to meet Ripley the Syncro here in town the other day. Ripley is a well outfitted Westy, and is really well known on Instagram with like 15k followers of its adventures! Cool to see it. It has the cool Audi rims like the Bradburn’s Ultimate… I might need to start looking for some like that.
