Hey Franz – I noticed the oil cooler/fan setup on the driver’s side. I’ve been planning to put one in our bus.
Do you have a manufacturer or supplier you’d recommend?
I’ve seen a bunch of cooler/fan sets available, but not with mounting brackets, etc. Did you have to fab them?
Thanks for all the great advice!YberParticipantApril 26, 2020 at 1:45 pmPost count: 154YberParticipantApril 25, 2020 at 1:35 pmPost count: 154YberParticipantApril 9, 2020 at 3:26 pmPost count: 154YberParticipantApril 9, 2020 at 3:12 pmPost count: 154YberParticipantApril 9, 2020 at 11:58 amPost count: 154
John – sorry for the lack of pics. I’ve made some progress – but still a long way to go.
Had some setbacks – Lori had surgery and this pandemic has really screwed things up. Can’t get parts (WW is closed!) and can’t get parts back from my powdercoater.
Re: surgery – were you able to get your back surgery before this pandemic mess? Hope so – and hope you’re recovering well and PAIN FREE!
I’ll post some pics.
Be safe out there VW bros & sisses. Really – this virus is no joke.YberParticipantMarch 8, 2020 at 11:28 amPost count: 154YberParticipantMarch 4, 2020 at 9:27 amPost count: 154YberParticipantMarch 3, 2020 at 1:41 pmPost count: 154
Hey Franz – got another question for the master assembler.
I’m wondering how you deal with the lower felt window track on the front door. In order for the latch on the slider to fit in the notches on the plate, do you trim that side of the felt?
If so, do you just trim just where the notches are, or do you trim out that whole side of the felt? Any tips?

Hey Franz – I’m assembling the front doors on my bus and came across a couple of questions.
I’ve looked and looked and don’t see a slit in the WW weatherstrip for the vent wing that the upper tab (that gets the rivet) to go through. I don’t want to go cutting on it until I’m sure – do I need to make an opening for the tab myself or am I missing something?
Also – what tool do you use to crimp the upper rivet that serves as the pivot? Do you know where I can get one?
Thanks, man!YberParticipantJanuary 30, 2020 at 3:10 pmPost count: 154YberParticipantJanuary 28, 2020 at 10:36 amPost count: 154YberParticipantJanuary 28, 2020 at 9:25 amPost count: 154YberParticipantJanuary 27, 2020 at 1:44 pmPost count: 154YberParticipantJanuary 25, 2020 at 2:00 pmPost count: 154
How’s everybody at KCW? Any good news on your back, JJ?
After WW delivered their insulation covers for the bus heater tubes I discovered that they were only the fiberglass mesh and NO vinyl covering. And they don’t produce it with vinyl. So I returned them and started looking around for some with vinyl. I found a guy – IN POLAND(!) – that makes a set. I was REAL leery about sending $200 to some guy in Poland, but all the feedback on thesamba was really positive.
Here’s his (Jacek’s) ad on thesamba:
They came yesterday – and they are really, really nicely crafted. First rate. And Jacek turned out to be a really nice guy – easy to deal with, good communication, and fast shipping (although it did take a couple of weeks because of the holidays and, well, because it had to come all the way from fucking Poland!) Anyway, I highly recommend it.
I’ve been putting in weatherstripping (which I HATE) and remembered telling you guys about the weatherstrip I found for safari windows. As I recall, it’s for a Saab hatchback. The profile is MUCH better than what WW is making and the windows close tightly without having to put a ton of force on them. Haven’t been out in the rain, so don’t know if they seal better than WW’s stuff, but I bet they will based on their cross-section. I’ve got a piece of trim and I’ll send it to you guys to check out.
