Hey Willy – and everybody,
Sorry for the delay with pics. I’ll post a bunch as soon as I get the interior in.
You’re gonna love how she looks!
in reply to: Brent’s 66 SO42 Body resto! #47597Hey Dario,
These look real nice – very close to what I got from Jacek.
I see you got them from WW. I didn’t think WW offered them with the vinyl covering.
I got a REAL nice repro child’s cot from Jacek. He got hold of some material that looks just like the OG green canvas. Nice!
in reply to: Brent’s 66 SO42 Body resto! #47596Sorry for the delay – we’ve had some family issues out of state to deal with, due to the pandemic…
Franz – you know all the tricks, man! When I had everything ready for the vent windows and gave it all a good look – I knew I’d better send them to you!
We’ve just finished the family stuff, so I’m getting back on our baby. I should be able to put in the camper and interior and then I’ll post some pics. You’re all gonna dig it – she’s so beautiful!
in reply to: Dan’s boosted oval #46134Hey Franz – I noticed the oil cooler/fan setup on the driver’s side. I’ve been planning to put one in our bus.
Do you have a manufacturer or supplier you’d recommend?
I’ve seen a bunch of cooler/fan sets available, but not with mounting brackets, etc. Did you have to fab them?
Thanks for all the great advice!
in reply to: Dan’s boosted oval #46132WOW Franz – FANTASTIC work on this baby!!
Incredible mechanicals – and GORGEOUS detailing!
You da man, Franz!!
in reply to: Brent’s 66 SO42 Body resto! #45460John – sorry for the lack of pics. I’ve made some progress – but still a long way to go.
Had some setbacks – Lori had surgery and this pandemic has really screwed things up. Can’t get parts (WW is closed!) and can’t get parts back from my powdercoater.
Re: surgery – were you able to get your back surgery before this pandemic mess? Hope so – and hope you’re recovering well and PAIN FREE!
I’ll post some pics.
Be safe out there VW bros & sisses. Really – this virus is no joke.
in reply to: Fucking Bubba!!!! #44502Just got my speedo back from Orange Empire last week.
Looks great!
in reply to: Brent’s 66 SO42 Body resto! #44421Yeah – that’s where I am. Figured it out AFTER I glued them into the frame!
Thanks AGAIN, Franz!
in reply to: Brent’s 66 SO42 Body resto! #44409Hey Franz – got another question for the master assembler.
I’m wondering how you deal with the lower felt window track on the front door. In order for the latch on the slider to fit in the notches on the plate, do you trim that side of the felt?
If so, do you just trim just where the notches are, or do you trim out that whole side of the felt? Any tips?
Thanks, bro!
Brent
in reply to: Brent’s 66 SO42 Body resto! #43760Thanks, Franz! You da man!
How about the rivets that hold the latch to the vent wing frame? Same technique as with the pivot rivet?
in reply to: Brent’s 66 SO42 Body resto! #43750Any tips on how to get the vent wing glass and seal in the goddamn frame??
The manual shows a special jig to push it in. How do you guys manage it??
in reply to: Brent’s 66 SO42 Body resto! #43745Right on John – window frame assembly is a bitch.
in reply to: Brent’s 66 SO42 Body resto! #43744Franz – Sean at WW sent a pic of vice grip with a ball bearing on the bottom jaw. Clever. Sounds like your modified vice grip might be the same.
Any advice about how to deal with the rivets that hold the latch to the vent wing frame?
Thanks, man!
in reply to: Shasta 2020!!!! 20th Anniversary of SST!!! #43694Sounds like a big trip! Too bad about the breakdowns – been there!
Any good news on your back?
in reply to: Brent’s 66 SO42 Body resto! #43688Hey Franz – I’m assembling the front doors on my bus and came across a couple of questions.
I’ve looked and looked and don’t see a slit in the WW weatherstrip for the vent wing that the upper tab (that gets the rivet) to go through. I don’t want to go cutting on it until I’m sure – do I need to make an opening for the tab myself or am I missing something?
Also – what tool do you use to crimp the upper rivet that serves as the pivot? Do you know where I can get one?
Thanks, man!
in reply to: Brent’s 66 SO42 Body resto! #43555Sorry.
I bought it a few years back when someone recommended it to me – and I can’t remember where I got it.
You might try printing off the pic and trying the parts dept at a Saab dealership…
Good luck.
in reply to: Brent’s 66 SO42 Body resto! #43462No problem, Franz.
Would you mind posting a pic of it?
