Looks great. Can’t wait to see the outer shell get some color
Good point
It doesn’t appear to have any collision damage and is rust free from what I can see. It definitely needs the rear apron replaced. The pan is wasted floor wise. So the body is coming off eventually. I think I am going to build the other pan for it and leave the body on the original for now so it can be rolled around and worked on, maybe painted etc. Then transfer it over to the pretty rebuilt pan.
I am thinking about using the 8 spoke rims it has and have them powder coated black.
Is that a good idea or bad to run those 8 spokes for offroad?
Finally got the 19 year old kid next door to drag the bug out of his mud pit of a front yard. I can’t wait to tear into this. The kid even gave me a running engine ( heads taken off to redo the rings), a single Weber 40 IDF too.
in reply to: Mikes Dual Cab #26834Odd question but can you measure the forward most part of the bed floor you ordered from Gerson. I am wanting to know how long it is from the cab wall towards the back. I am hoping those will work for my little turd project. You can see they pop riveted flimsy steel to connect the front and rear body panels.
Sorry about hijacking your thread. Back to a real truck…….
It just takes time, effort and sacrifice. Doing all of that. Eventually I will get there.
Been quiet for quite a while, since the football episode. Seeing that just made me laugh again at how dumb I am sometimes.
Life has gotten in the way per usual. I now have a freshman in college ($$), was in a wreck and totaled my truck, family issues, working on the house and property, and I have been averaging over 50 hours a month overtime for the last year. The money is great to pay bills and for college but leaves me no time for my toys. I keep waiting for the rain to hit to prevent me from yard work so I can hide in the garage and play with my projects. I am currently wanting to build me a budget class 11 style bug. I have had a 3″ bug body lift from Bugzyla sitting forever so I will finally get to use it. Made a deal for the kid next doors ’73 standard bug for $300. Now I just need the kid to be home so we can move all of his other dead cars out of the way to drag it home.
So here is my starting point. A ’69 spare pan I had is now becoming to the chassis for the ’73. The beam is rusted solid, won’t turn or roll. Starting off picture.
in reply to: Tabeguache Trailblazers #26730So who else is interested in the Franz sanctioned off-road trip next fall? I made a deal to buy the kid next doors ’73 standard bug for $300. Pan is wasted on the passenger side but otherwise the car is complete and not too beat up. I see it becoming a class 11 style toy. I can’t wait to drive all these forest roads out here and hopefully come to KCW for the weekend trip in the fall.
I acquired a wheel less ’69 pan from a bulk purchase of VW parts a while back. I think I am going to build this pan for the ’73 as I don’t have the bug at my place yet. This is me moving a pan when the front end is rusted solid and nothing moves, but the rear wheels turn, go figure.
So who else is in? Andy? Ben?
in reply to: Tabeguache Trailblazers #26002Sounds like fun. I would be all for it. I just have to find an appropriate car………the neighbor kid next door has a ‘70 something bug sitting on his mom’s property doing nothing. You’re getting me thinking
in reply to: Tabeguache Trailblazers #25862Looks like a great reason to buy a late model bug, crank up the suspension, buy bigger tires and go for it.
When would this take place?
I am surprised you are running a split case trans in this.
I have found and bought the windows you are needing through EIS.
in reply to: Subaru bullshit! #22570My super stretched shit box is just making all the other projects look better. My turd is in no hurry
in reply to: KCW randomness #19874Happy birthday Gretchen. Enjoy your weekend guys
in reply to: Je$$e’s (aka Tintop) Projects #17476He needs that info to perform a wire transfer. It is common. I have done it a lot. Tell him to provide you a reference if he buys a lot of vehicles from overseas.
