Got the last of the removables off the cadaver, E brake handle, shift rod, rear hatch – all the fun stuff 🙄 Got to the hole under the seat pedestal, if transporters have a hell hole like a 914, this is it. Spent most of 2 days in this little spot, found more rust above my bulkhead repairs when I could see behind, but it’s solid now.volksaddictParticipantDecember 29, 2017 at 6:22 amPost count: 596volksaddictParticipantDecember 28, 2017 at 6:36 amPost count: 596volksaddictParticipantDecember 26, 2017 at 10:14 amPost count: 596volksaddictParticipantDecember 26, 2017 at 9:16 amPost count: 596
Dunno why I bought the 60 single either… softie for a transporter in need I guess. That Binz conversion idea is a bad one, too many parts to fab that KF don’t make, Binz’s are kinda ugly I think, compared to a factory dc, and from what I’ve seen those trucks are a freaking hack from the factory. I was thinking custom camper on the back, but it’s waay on the back burner, this thread is about ddwt’s 😆
I finished stripping the cadaver to the bone and stuck it on the rack, 4 wheeled dolly that works better on 3. There are welds that need to be finished that I could not get to any other way, and a big hole under the driver’s seat pedestal that couldn’t get fixed without the beam coming out. The suspension and trans need a good cleaning and there is lots of bare metal down there now that needs protection. Didn’t want to do it but knew it had to be done. I just added 6 months of time to this project. Drive train looks pretty good for 59 years old. Looks like og shocks on the rear, coil overs on the front 🙄 to compensate for the torsion bar sticking out, I don’t think this rig saw too many miles.volksaddictParticipantDecember 25, 2017 at 6:42 pmPost count: 596volksaddictParticipantDecember 23, 2017 at 7:40 amPost count: 596volksaddictParticipantDecember 23, 2017 at 7:34 amPost count: 596
I’m going to leave the little hacked in crooked gangsta windows in it Bubba, even though I really like panels. That means I get to chop up a og high hinge panel door 😮
Got the lower nose in yesterday, more Rust Bullet slopped on in the nose cavity, short upper nose fitted and coated on backsidevolksaddictParticipantDecember 22, 2017 at 8:57 pmPost count: 596volksaddictParticipantDecember 22, 2017 at 9:22 amPost count: 596
Got the left C pillar and hinge pocket rebuilt yesterday, short rocker and cargo rocker burned in 😀 Doing lower nose today, front floor next 😀 😀
I’ve been slathering Rust Bullet in the body cavities over my marginal sandblasting for a little protection.
Things are looking up for this poor bus!

A little progress this week 🙂
WW rockers I had in stock. I like the e coat on their metal but it doesn’t go inside the rockers so not much use there 🙄 Wish they would ship them in 2 pieces so they can be installed right.
C pillar and short rocker came out nice, cargo door should fit better now. I fucked up and didn’t buy the long C pillar for the other side, wasting time rebuilding that one now 🙄volksaddictParticipantDecember 19, 2017 at 6:43 amPost count: 596volksaddictParticipantDecember 18, 2017 at 8:21 amPost count: 596volksaddictParticipantDecember 18, 2017 at 8:00 amPost count: 596volksaddictParticipantDecember 17, 2017 at 9:30 amPost count: 596volksaddictParticipantDecember 17, 2017 at 9:28 amPost count: 596volksaddictParticipantDecember 17, 2017 at 8:14 amPost count: 596
Dog leg going in, C pillar going out. Rocker today 🙂
This is the first bus I’ve done complete doglegs on. I thought they would be hard to remove, clean up and align the new. They come out fast, clean up nice and have lots of points to align them properly. I have spent way too much time in the past repairing doglegs! They are always full of hidden rust anyway.
Wife said yesterday “this bus is going to be all green soon” 😀
