As in how old is he? He’s 68 (I’m 37), he’s had over 300 VW’s.
The most at one time was 96!
He raced Baja’s in the 70’s……..
Built this Baja in 2000 and crossed the Simpson desert (400 odd miles of Sand Dunes)…….
Plus numerous other, bugs, type 3s, kombis etc etcPhat BugParticipantJuly 10, 2018 at 3:32 pmPost count: 40
I know it’s not VW related, but thought I’d share a little about my ’68 year old Dad’s truck,
He’s spent the last 2 years building it and the Camper Shell from scratch, starting off with a wrecked 4×4 Hilux and an old Toyota Hiace……..
It’s now a 6×4, with a 3.8lt Buick V6, T400 auto, with locked diffs and airbags over leaf suspension, with a slide on camper shell with solar power, toilet, shower, kitchen, heating and cooling etc etc
They have just sent off on their first adventure, a 6 month trip up through the center of Australia to Darwin to visit my sister, then will continue to follow the coast to the west, getting home just before Christmas. All up about a 7000 mile round trip.
They’ve covered about 1500 miles in the last week, still another 800 miles before the reach my sisters place.Phat BugParticipantJune 21, 2018 at 3:35 pmPost count: 40Phat BugParticipantJune 21, 2018 at 3:34 pmPost count: 40Phat BugParticipantJune 20, 2018 at 3:13 pmPost count: 40

Of the 299 Barny’s sold to OZ my Dad has had 5 of them…………
His first 2 Barny’s circa 1970-75……
Were sold to another collector in the early 90’s but I believe both were parted out.
Next one he found about ’98 when he took a wrong turn, this was the craziest recovery mission we’ve done, wish I had pics of that day…….
Was sold and is now running/driving but no body work started.
The next was found in the early ’90s, but We didn’t pick it up till about 2000….
Was sold to the same collector as the first two, but is still intact.
And the last one is the rarest of the lot, standard sunroof with factory safaries……
Eventually made it’s way to the UK, and now fully restored……Phat BugParticipantJune 18, 2018 at 8:39 pmPost count: 40
is there a link to that one?
Not yet, I’ll find out more info soon.
I have been liaising with the finders, telling them how important it is, they found it whilst on holidays on a remote Island and had no idea the significance of it.
I convinced them to head back with a trailer to collect it, 1100 miles round trip & just got it home yesterday. It’s a May ’54.
One of only 299 Barny’s shipped to Australia.Phat BugParticipantJune 18, 2018 at 3:25 pmPost count: 40Phat BugParticipantApril 2, 2018 at 10:37 pmPost count: 40Phat BugParticipantMarch 26, 2018 at 5:50 pmPost count: 40Phat BugParticipantMarch 15, 2018 at 6:16 pmPost count: 40Phat BugParticipantMarch 12, 2018 at 4:52 pmPost count: 40Phat BugParticipantMarch 6, 2018 at 7:49 pmPost count: 40Phat BugParticipantMarch 6, 2018 at 1:03 pmPost count: 40Phat BugParticipantMarch 6, 2018 at 1:02 pmPost count: 40
Super glad Peet got this!!!!!! Looks Awesome!!!!!!!
I was thinking RCW baja & buggy spa weekend. Pat and I have been talking about starting a baja & buggy club. With some kind of cool name and badass retro silk jackets with our names on them and stuff. Peet got his new mud terrains mounted 215/75 and 30″ x 9″ combo. White letters out for old school look.
Shit, that looks killer!!
