I love this project! Jealous for sure! Hey Franz, what type of tubing is that for the full flow, and how are you bending it? It’s a great looking way to have an option for a filter later!

Also, are you using larger size heater boxes on the 1915 engine and A1? I’m wondering if I can get away w/ og heater boxes in similar sized engine.

Keep it up, guys. It’s great to live vicariously!

    Cheers,

    I just put a 3.44 with all beetle gearing.. The ,89 4th… I LOVE it… Opened up all my gears… I like every gear better… But I have a “Super Size” Tractor motor… 😎

It’s always good to have something else to dream about! Super Size Tractor Motor (SSTM)!

Stock bus gearing with the .82 4th with a 3.88 and reduction boxes drives nice 65-70mph. If you want to tighten the shift point between 3rd&4th (good for climbing hills), then you can do a beetle .89 4th and bump the ring/pinion to 3.44 to get similar final drive. The baby tractor is a 1914cc with 8:1 compression, engle 110 cam, dual idf/hpmx 40 carbs, deep sump, and a 1 3/8″ a1 flanged side winder header. They run cool enough not to need an external oil cooler. We always tap the case for full-flow, but I install a metal loop with JIC fittings to keep it simple with the ability to add on. Because we’re not running an oil filter, Empi’s 1 quart deep oil sump is used with an ultra-fine improved screen element on the pick-up tube. Part number 17-2871 if you want to look it up.

Thanks for the reply, Franz! Sounds like a great engine and exactly what I’m looking for! I’m not sure what r/p I have, (I was 19 when I had it rebuilt and I know it is not stock-I did not keep records back then.) but I think the 3.88 and 82  4th is the direction I’m going. I don’t need to go anywhere fast anymore! 60-65 mph and enjoy!

    Cheers ~ Tony

I had to re-set my account. Not sure what happened, but loving the current projects you are all working on!

Someday, maybe get you my bus for the full”KCW” treatment. Meanwhile, can you elaborate on the Mini-Tractor? With the 3.88, are you running stock gearing and RGB’s? Also, any oil filter or oil cooler? I live in PNW and want and need heat and defrost and don’t want to give up my stock heater boxes, but want some umph to get to the mountains and the beach!
