@Vwfool right on; nice looking cherries! I started a cactus and succulent nursery about 3 years ago too. Built a huge greenhouse here in San Diego County. Fun times.

Ok I am sending KCW a rear hatch for my bus so I will throw it in the same box and you can grab it next time you’re passing through CO.

@Vwfool did I read you are in X-Mas Tree business? I have a cool old sign I want to give you, I pulled it from the same place this bus came from. Has a couple pine trees on it; you might be able to paint it up your own way.

It’s looking great! Call me when you need help installing the drivetrain.

The plan is to drive this thing home from Colorado at ~45 mph. It’ll take me 3 days lol!

He spent the rest of the day scrapping very well aged horse hair tar board.

When I hear people talking about the hair used by vw in the interior I always hear “whore’s hair;” certainly a curious choice of material and one which I wouldn’t put past 1950’s Germans.

You may as well order that metal from CIP1 yourself. No sense in pass-through money. 3/4 bus is a donor we’ve been cutting metal out of for years. It has the luggage shelf….but needs the spare tire hole(walk-thru) patched.

comin your way 5-7 days. Just ordered.

Started as a 3/4 bus. Only about a 1/4 bus now. Riley will be cutting out the donor section tomorrow. A4702993-524C-4541-878F-A55215E0701E

Going to order some metal this morning. Those piece are expensive A/F.

Go for it Franz, ive exhausted my samba search for an og bulkhead. There’s one around the corner from me same year and color!… but the guy thinks the bus is worth restoring (its not). So go ahead and order or I can order and have it shipped to you, lmk.

Not sure what 3/4 you are referring to, JJ, enlighten me if you would; My top priority is that welding/ replacement needed on the torsion spring plate area because it ain’t goin anywhere in its current state lol! Then luggage tray, then bulkhead.

Although they did do a good job cutting it out😁👍🏻👍🏻

I’d hope so, they were sheet metal workers!

    Hacienda limpia!

Here are some photos of the insurance from the same year 1964. Can see both 58 busses listed and a bunch of other cool cars I’d kill to have.76D98161-F0F3-4B09-A028-D19709953DB705AFDD3D-C83D-4550-8703-26166309E04D

Sweet story. Thank you for sharing. A lot of great buses have been found in the high desert. Another one added to the list

The environment is perfect for patina; acid rains, sand blasting winds, and intense sun. And the primer on this bus protected the original dove blue as seen from the minor wet sanding done on the driver door.

Nice history with the bus. Cool find for sure. Can’t wait to see what your plans are.

Plans are stock logo patina. Stock-as modified by the sheet metal company. Getting rid of the son’s weird cabin modifications and making it drivable.

Yes the ladder and the weird side mount brackets are real cool. One bracket and the ladder were on the ground when found. But all survived sitting out under the trees in the dry desert.
