in reply to: Mikes Dual Cab #37508
Clara makes all the interior stuff for commercials, that’s what’s in my dcab. Fits great and easy to install. don’t forget the sound insulation first.
I’ve seen Clara’s, they are very nice. Any recommendations on brand of insulation?
in reply to: Mikes Dual Cab #37502I’ve been driving the DC to work, when it’s not 100 degrees (which is only a couple days in the last 2 weeks). Love it!!!!
Next up, I’m working on getting new seat covers, door cards, and material for the roof panels. This might take some time tho. I’m not quite as fast as KCW.
I got the repaired hubcap and t-shirts in the mail yesterday. Thank you!
in reply to: Mikes Dual Cab #37415Dang, Dot3 I would crank it down tighter to seat it……maybe you already tried that.
Thanks on the DOT3. I gave it a tug a couple days ago. I might give it one more pull. See if it’s still weeps. If so, back it off and try to seat it again. If that doesn’t work, replace.
in reply to: Mikes Dual Cab #37413Loving the DC and getting a bunch of smiles on the streets (including my own)! I’m still doing some shake down rides around town. Couple questions for you guys. The rear passenger brake hardline is weeping a bit behind the fitting (red arrow in picture). Am I better off just getting a new hardline and replacing the whole piece or is there a quicker fix? Also what brake fluid type is in the system?
in reply to: Mikes Dual Cab #37166Franz…speaking of shifters…Driving around and dialing things in, I realized the bend in the Gene Berg shifter arm is leaning a little to much towards the driver. I gotta move my legs in order to get out of the way for reverse. I’d like to clock the stick at the base, so that it is more in line with the centerline of the truck (ie. the stick bends straight back). Before I open up that shifter to rotate toward the centerline, without a install manual, I just wanted to check if that rotation is do-able or are there any collars or pins that prevent rotation.
in reply to: Mikes Dual Cab #37152😆. I’m starting to think the shift lock is unnecessary, as a standard transmission alone is the best theft deterrent for modern thieves.
The CrewCab is now legal in the Republic of Texas.
in reply to: Mikes Dual Cab #37141I took the Double Cab to get Texas state inspection today. No problems, except the guys at the shop couldn’t figure out how to push the seat back (it doesn’t adjust), shift into reverse, and they didn’t know if it was a bus or a truck. Updating the registration tomorrow, then I’ll shoot some pics around here.
in reply to: Kelly’s forever barndoor project #36973I hope his trailer finding experience is better than mine. Turns out if you rent a Uhaul trailer in Dallas, drive it 2000 miles roundtrip, it is x6 cheaper than renting it in GJ and driving it only 1000 miles.
This is an amazing looking bus. Hopefully Kelly has an uneventful trip back here to Texas (except for the smiles and waves from bus fans on the road).
in reply to: Je$$e’s (aka Tintop) Projects #36972Progress! Progress! Looking good Jesse!
in reply to: Mikes Dual Cab #36896Sounds good! Take your time. Looks like you have a big delivery this weekend. 👍
The good news about having those sweet WagensWest brakes is the DC looks great without caps as well.
in reply to: Kelly’s forever barndoor project #36895You’re making the trip I just finished last weekend! First night stop in Trinidad. Hopefully you didn’t stay at the janky Super8 that I did. Day 2 on to GJ, thru the beautiful Rocky Mountains. Safe travels!
in reply to: Mikes Dual Cab #36814Yeah yeah yeah, I know everyone is nervous about having the fuel filter in the engine bay. Filters work best under pressure…not under vacuum. Installing a filter before the pump is asking for vapor-lock issues. With a mechanical fuel pump the only place a filter should be installed is in the engine bay…. We have also positioned it low and out of the way, so that if it does fail its not going to drip on any of the ignition components. Plus, its easier to look at and service in a place where you can see it.
I knew you all had a well thought out reason behind the placement. 👍
in reply to: Mikes Dual Cab #36812Thanks John for the advice. Easy fix for sure.
Gretchen, it was great to hang out for a couple hours with you all. I pop in my garage all the time to just admire the amazing work KCW did. Can wait to get the registration updated and log some miles (or at least drive to work)
in reply to: Mikes Dual Cab #36778I’m definitely going to get a BlazeCut for the engine bay. It’s not pretty, but it could save my ass at some point. What do you think about relocating the filter out of the engine bay and a way from the engine heat? I’ve seen a few threads on TS about installing the filter under the vehicle. What do you think about this little set up?
A guys sells that bracket on TS for $40.

in reply to: Mikes Dual Cab #36715What a weekend! Drove my ass off…literally. I can hardly sit after driving from Dallas to KCW and back. Made it into GJ on Saturday around 1pm. Inside the shop, there it was, my beautifully restored DC.
Then we all piled in a fleet of buses and headed to Roosters for some kick-ass wings and few pitchers of “Colorado Kool-aid”. On the way, I might have almost, inches away, taken out John’s recently reacquired bus. Thank god Franz, was on the gas and I finally saw him at the last second. Note to self, adjust those new mirrors better.
After only a few short hours, we loaded the Crew Cab on the trailer. This was also eventful, as the drivers side ramp squirted out from under the rear tire. Amazingly, the hub cab held the wheel and bus up. Only the hubcap sustained a minor wound, thanks for patching it up John (and sorry for the additional work). Here’s the bus moments before the loading SNAFU.
Finally, we headed out of town. We made it to Colorado Springs on Saturday night. I got almost no sleep as I was so excited about the rig and the hotel wasn’t in the greatest part of town, so I was stressed about thieves.
We made it back home this evening (Sunday) with one final scare. The fuel filter has a split at the seam and was pissing fuel all over the left side of the engine. Luckily, I noticed the growing puddle and shut it down. It’s an easy fix, but I almost torched the new bus. Now, the CrewCab is safely in the garage and I’m going to sleep. Good night!
