Been getting some conversion parts from Boxeer. Which means we can make some more progress. Power steering pump bracket is probably headed our way today. I need to get a 3.0 h-6 power steering pump now.
in reply to: Parkway projects #4789I’ve been tooling away on this cherry 62. Rebuilt transaxle and a host of other new parts. Going to give the body and interior some love after the mechanical is 100%.
in reply to: Parkway projects #4788We got this super nice 71 ghia in for a little tidy-up job. Its a crazy how detailed it is. Flawless I dare say.
It has a elaborate breather system on it, and a single off-road type carb on a 1914cc. I assume a larger cam because of the lopey Idle.
I think some dual Delloros and a simple draft tube would be more effective for a smoother idle and let the engine really sing. Regardless, the owner has asked that we don’t change things.
So far Pat has found:
- bad ignition switch (not springing back from the starter position). Which trashed the starter.
- loose sump plate
- broken alternator pulley
- binding choke plate
in reply to: Parkway projects #4786Pulled head studs. Headed to Painter’s for repair, and rebuild.

in reply to: Parkway projects #4753The engine was soaked with oil. All the tin, inside and out. Best to disassemble and clean everything. Engine bay too.
in reply to: Je$$e’s (aka Tintop) Projects #4749Thats crazy! $5k used to get you a driver bus. Now, you get a pile of crap to spend all your free time/money on.
…All things considered I’m not convinced that is such a good deal. You could save your money for two years and buy a good bus that doesn’t need everything. Save yourself all that crappy work. You’re going to spend a grip of money however you do it.

in reply to: BrownCloud KCW baja race team #4663We’re going to need a pit crew too. And support rig/rigs. And a food guy. And extra parts.
There are 4? different races in the score circuit. The smaller 250 races are earlier in the year. Maybe shoot for a visit camp-out this year, get some registration in order, and try to race next year. I think its probably more exciting to do the entire series.
in reply to: so42 feelin so34 #4661Sounds like some ground work and fliers need to be in Loveland. Maybe a “have you seen this bus” classified ad in a local paper? Talk to people at yard sales? Vist all the used car dealers?
in reply to: BrownCloud KCW baja race team #4635YEP!
Sounds like a good parkway project for the winter. Easy build. Late beetle + good stock engine + big tires + some other dumb stuff = class 11
I’m get the impression of class 11 is to drive as hard as you can, and carry as much speed as possible. Probably going to take a few races to get a good memory/result.
