The coolant expansion tank had the wrong size connections and restrictive reducer fittings. I cut and welded a small 1″ tube through the box into a 1.5″ tube so that hopefully there isn’t too much swirl while running/filling.

We have been thinking about assembly. Everything mechanical has been addressed, except for the engine. It ran when we drove into the shop. The plan is to take everything off, down to a long block. Torque the heads, have a good look, then build it back up with new seals and misc parts to make it reliable. Things like the fuel pump and generator look deteriorated. Some nice new paint and a correct bus exhaust/air cleaner to finish it off.
in reply to: Ultimate Vanagon #7666Burley skid plate looks good. But I’m not sure. It does not fit subaru at the rear. The engine hanger location is different.
Maybe he would sell the kit sans rear piece?
Let me think about it some more. Maybe I can make some mounts/modify to fit the skid plate at the rear. Definitely want to put some sort of cage around the subaru variable geometry turbo actuator. Its in danger hanging out like it is.

I need to weld another mounting ear on today.
in reply to: Ultimate Vanagon #7662I read plug n’ play…
…they meant “plug” in your power tools and “play” fabricator.
in reply to: Ultimate Vanagon #7624Been working on the air filter situation. Trying to come up with something clean.
Decided to go with this r2c filter. Supposed to be good for dirt. No oil for the dirt to stick to. I’m going to make a mount/shield for it to bolt into the corner where the cool air will feed it.

I talked with Empi today about a possible carburetor sponsorship. Sounds promising. We need to put together something like a resume to send in.
in reply to: Subaru bullshit! #7615You got your tinker toys and legos mixed up.
in reply to: Coles SWR DD Pamper #7614Oh damn. Yeah I like that.
But lets put the early stuff on your bus and paint in up nice. You can get crafty and paint 1/3 of it blue.
I ordered everything from WW to fix you up.

A local vw guy donated some good parts to us. Stoked. Check out that OG surfbus glass. I think the tach is accessory for baywindow?

in reply to: 66 deluxe megahatch #7598I have one more backside to go, then I am done with bodywork. All the doors sucked. They had rust and tons of extra holes. Plus, I’m not covering the top with headliner like normal.
I definitely plan to do some shake-down cruises first. I’m not sure my CV axle angle is going to live at the current angle. I may have to upgrade to 930.
I also don’t want to have a broken bus on vacation.
in reply to: Je$$e’s (aka Tintop) Projects #7597You could have sold that to Todd.
